datzenmike
Turn dash lights on. Thermostat hole size won't matter. Remember the thermostat sets the lowest engine temperature. If 180 it runs at 180. Tommy, I thought the negative ground cable was bolted to the intake? Quote Link to comment
NC85ST
I’m interested to see if the gauge reads different with the Nissan thermostat. Quote Link to comment

Thomas Perkins
I got the hoses off.Now time to take the connector off.The outlet on the right is what is leaking. If still usable I will take to work and put in enclosure and sand blast it. Thomas Perkins
The connector size is a 1 1/8 inch.I have a deep well that size but it is a 12 point one.I will go get a 6 point one at Home Depot.I was hitting the racket with a hammer,I need to tie up the positive battery cable,it's in the way.No much room to work with.May try my 1/2 inch breaker bar, longer.I did spray with wd'40,but won't help. Mine is bolted to the battery tray with another skinny ground wire then another cable goes to the power steering bracket.Always been.like that.Has a hole for it there. Quote Link to comment

Thomas Perkins Posted yesterday at 12:04 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 12:04 AM I couldn't get the connector off,I didn't go get a 1 1/16 inch deep well 6 point socket. The 12 point was digging into the connector.I had more room with the I/2 inch breaker bar.I was hitting it with a heavy hammer,as you see no much of the socket goes on the connector better if I had someone hold the breaker bar and me hit it with my 8lb sledge hammer.I will get a socket next time I go to Home Depot.I did put a new hose on and sanded the fitting the hose goes on.I was afraid that I would cause damage and have to take the intake off,it is probably stuck by rust.Plus it being cold, cause metal to shrink.I worked at Cessna air craft. ,we use to keep the stainless steel parts in freezers that needed to be bended, easy to bend when cold, after we got the angles, they would heat treat them,so we had to make sure the angles were right ,hard to bend after they are heat treated. Thomas Perkins Posted yesterday at 12:06 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 12:06 AM I Just need to add antifreeze and bleed it.I did get a mirror and look at the other side of the connector.Maybe it won't leak. Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins Posted yesterday at 03:27 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 03:27 AM (edited) I found out one thing when I do this.I let my truck sit a day or so before I stated this both times.Engine cold. When I took oil filter off both times. Not a drop of oil came out of oil filter. When I change oil when engine is warm, oil comes out of filter alot.So for now on I will change oil with engine cold,no oil to clean up.My new Nissan hose was about a inch shorter that the Nissan one that was on it,it is still good.I also put electrical tape over my oil pressure unit so if it does leak it won't kill it again. Thomas Perkins Posted yesterday at 03:37 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 03:37 AM (edited) Here is what is says about their Auto Zone Duralast thermostat. Why does it need more flow. Why not Oem flow.Larger than OEM opening allowing for increased in coolant flow. Triple bridge opening design for increased stability and strength. Also takes longer to open up.When it opens,it is only a quarter of the way up.I also read this from other people on line. Thomas Perkins
The verdict is in.A AutoZone larger opening does make your temperature gauge show 3/8 or lower on it.So with a bigger opening, the coolant circulates faster and not giving it time to heat like a thermostat with a smaller opening. My Nissan thermostat opens at a hair over half way, then goes back to half way and stays.I tested both on the stove. The Autozone also opens more than the Nissan meaning the coolant is not as hot as the Nissan thermostat. So The Nissan one will put out more heat on your heater. In other words don't buy Auto Zone's thermostats.I will show my temperature gauge after work.tomorrow.It is late now. Both open at 180 but The Nissan opens less so it circulates slower which makes the coolant hotter. My gauge tells the tell.Logics mean nothing. With it opening less and recurculating slower gives the engine time to make the coolant hotter. datzenmike
I don't believe it. If they are both 180F then that's what they run at. Hole size won't matter as a larger hole moves more cooled water into the engine cooling the thermostat and closing it to compensate for any over cooling. It should stabilize at 180. Get an infra red gun and 'shoot' the thermostat cover. If the AutoZone is lower then it's faulty (try another) or they are calibrated wrong. (cheap crap) I believe the Nissan thermostat. Thomas Perkins
It does Mike.Ripely"s believe it or not.Yes,Check out my temperature gauge in picture, this is at 4:30 am in my jobs parking lot .Right in the middle.Autozone should not make the hole bigger. But anyway.it is solved.A big hole does make the coolant cooler proven here Mike.I will.post a day time picture after work.
