Adam Garrison
I have a running early 70's Y44 4.4 V8 for sale if anyone is interested pulled it out of my 78 280Z. Has something going on with the ignition the distributor. Also have a working automatic trans to go with it. Swapping an LS in it because parts are more available. 3 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I've always suspected that Ford sold the Y block to Nissan when they were done with it. There are too many similarities. Quote Link to comment
bilzbobaggins
cool. firing order is cast into the valve cover Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Ford Y block 15486372 for rear mount distributor but I guess Nissan could select anything they want. Quote Link to comment
RyanC
Whats the dimensions for the length fot this old girl? Assuming the fan can be removed from the front and an electric fan used, also convert dizzy to use on modern efi. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It probably has an EI type distributor. It has clutch fan and EGR two relatively new (mid '70s) innovations. Quote Link to comment
Adam Garrison
Ryan C the fan can be removed it just 4 bolts. It fit nicely in my 78 Z. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The Z cars were almost designed for v8 swaps. Lots of room. Not so much in a 4 cylinder car/truck. Quote Link to comment

Thanks Adam, anychance you can measure the length or near enough rear of engine to crank pully wheel outside etc? Looks pretty compact like most pushrod v8s. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I looked at a SBC and no way it would fit a 620 by 5-6". Ford is likely similar. Water pumps and fan would have been in the radiator as there was too much room in a GM car or truck for a V8 to need to make them compact. All v8 swaps I have seen the firewalls were cut out and engine set back to clear radiator. Quote Link to comment
Adam Garrison
It's a cool motor looks to be a combination of Ford dodge and Chevy. I really wanted to leave it in the car was having a hard time finding someone to build me an HEI distributor for it. The SBC parts are readily available so it just makes sense. I've put the older Chevy motors in all kinds of things this is my first LS swap gonna be fun the Edelbrock kit makes it easy from what I'm seeing. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Did you look under the cap? If after '78 it may not have points and have EI already in it. Quote Link to comment
Adam Garrison
It's points i sent them to the parts store they couldn't match them. Quote Link to comment
RyanC
What about hall effect and a megasquirt or other. Arduino based ecu similar just to drive ignition? Some here in Aus for 300 Au Quote Link to comment

LS with remote water pump electric fan setup and custom radiator everything else is gonna be custom sooo hmmm 🤔 1 Quote Link to comment

Yep our local gen 3 5.7 ls1s were alloy we had lots of them in the Holden's but think they weren't common in the states. Quote Link to comment
