School me on LS engines

Main thing looking for dimensions externally really length.  Have been reading about the 4.8 easy making 350 to 400hp.  

Are all blocks similar in length I know the 4.8 is cast iron and not alloy.

 

Then do heads interchange etc.

Try to find an aluminum block LS. The 620 engines ranged from 260-280 pounds. I would try to lessen the added weight to the front end.

Was looking for dimensions for the 4.8/5.3 block but found them for the 5.7 ls1.  Also found a running ls1 for a decent price, so measuring to do.
