Benannah
Hello, hope you all are doing well! I have noticed that my fuel pump seems abnormally loud to me. Attached is a video so if anyone could take a look at it and let me know what they think that would be much appreciated! I also want to note that it does not shut off after a few seconds with the engine not running. I know new cars will shut it off, but is this normal on a truck like this? Thank you for all your help! https://youtube.com/shorts/odzHY4MR3e8?si=HHPbW-_XxfHk9sFA Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Can't hear a thing. Can you hear anything in the cab? Should be a light buzz sound. I don't think it's anything to worry about. When was the last time that fuel filter was changed? They are good for 3-5 years. Change it see if quieter. Quote Link to comment
Benannah
I’ll give that a go. Sometimes it seems louder than others and i took the video on a quieter day. I’ll look over the fuel system and change the filter as I'm not sure how much I trust the previous owner lol. If that doesn’t make it quieter and, but it’s not causing any issues, is it worth looking into it any further? Thanks for the help! Quote Link to comment
NC85ST
Is this something new, hasn’t been loud in the past? Usually the only time the fuel pump on my ‘85 is loud is when there’s no fuel or I’ve had the line apart for some reason and it begins refilling. Quote Link to comment
Benannah
Unfortunately I have no clue how new this is as I just bought the truck about 3 months ago. All I know is that it has been about the same the whole time of my ownership. Quote Link to comment

So the sound is probably normal for an external fuel pump.... 1 Quote Link to comment
Benannah
Yeah, I think that is likely all it is. I’ll change the filter as maintenance, though. 1 Quote Link to comment
NC85ST
You’re aware that, if that’s the factory pump, the filter is inside the pump? Also when you order the new filter from Nissan, be sure to order new rubber gaskets also, they don’t come with the filter. Ask me how I know. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There is a filter, in the removable base, but there is a regular fuel filter between the gas tank and the electric pump. Quote Link to comment
Benannah
Alright, I assume that’s the one you referenced replacing? Quote Link to comment
