This will be a quick and dirty thread about my 1974 Datsun 620 I picked up back in February 2024.

Since I'm new a quick intro about me.
I am currently a college student, who has been born and raised with American muscle so these foreign cars are new to me. I've owned many other cars although the most fun being a 88 mustang gt, or my dream car 1980 Malibu wagon. (you can see its build thread here, although its not up to date)

I dabble in everything such as upholstery, 3D printing/design, EV conversions, audiophile, computers, photography. You name it I can probably relate to it.

Anyway here is my 620 I picked up for I think it was $800. With a kind of running L18 and 4 speed. 4 brand new tires, and some new parts not installed too.
This thing is definitely rough and needs alot of love. The initial condition is everything needs gone through. The bed had some Cadillac taillights hacked in with fiber glass, pressboard, a pair of jeans, wood screws, chicken wire and lots of bondo! The wheel wells were cut our, as well as the front metal section removed, and a massive hole in the bottom of the bed. I ended up removing the rigged up taillights and putting on the tailgate. The rear of the cab has a massive hole in it too (I'm guessing from a blow through subwoofer) which I have already patched up. I didn't take pictures of this for some reason.

The interior was VERY rough. Someone had hacked the entire wiring and fuse panel onto a fiberglass kick panel speaker pod which you can see in the first picture below and it resulted in me rewiring the entire truck to fix it. You can see it a little bit in the first and second pictures under this. I did a quick and cheap rebuild on the interior which Ill fix up a little more in the future. It involved about $40 in materials including walmart carpet, cleaning supplies, some paint, and SEM vinyl paint for the seat to convert it from tan to black, a $5 mugen shift knob, and wiring stuff. The before and after makes it well worth it in the 2nd picture.

I'm going to be skipping a lot of the little stuff because its a lot to catch up on. Such as 3d printing parts, rewiring interior, lights, rust repair, oil pan repair, chinesium $10 electronic ignition conversion, brake & clutch repair.
Future Plans
Anyway current day I bought a truck bed trailer someone made out of a 620 for $300 bucks so ill swap the nice bed off it onto my truck since it'll be alot less work, plus Ill have a matching trailer when I'm done.
I am also building a gas tank out of a tank from a D21 since mine didn't have a tank and that way I can use the internal fuel pump for the KA swap.

I have picked up a KA24e, harness/ecu, auto trans, and other parts from a 1989 240sx for only $100. I sold the trans for $100.
I picked up a 5 speed from a 1987 D21 so its a little shorter than the newer D21 trans. I am also rebuilding the motor currently although its in the machine shop being bored .02 over and the head decked so it doesn't blow a head gasket like how I bought it.
Once I get the motor built I'll probably swap it in within a week if I can work the time in around school and work.
After that Ill drive it for a while then maybe down the road do a megasquirt + turbo running very low boost like 5lbs.

I also have a bit more rust repair to do, then I can paint the truck and reseal all the doors/widows/

Anyway thanks for reading Ill update this often as I can but no promises.
