jerryt
My thermostat hosing neck is broken. What other model can I use on my thermostat housing? Thanks Jerry Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Put the year of your 510 in you profile. Assume this is for your PL510? Any L4 or L6 cylinder engine will do through '78. From '79 on the thermostat housing uses 3 bolts. Quote Link to comment
jerryt
Im sorry Mike. I have a 1971 Datsun 510 1600 c motor. The housing neck uses two bolts. Its a L1600. Thanks Jerry Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Fixed your profile. Then any L series through '78 will work. Quote Link to comment

Thanks Part number dl902 5061. jerry Try Korean car parts, They often fit older Japanese cars, I have a Sephia thermostat housing neck on my 67RL411. Slightly shorter on the height but works. I had the ream the mounting holes up from metric to SAE but that's all it took. Quote Link to comment

YES! you can use the three bolt top cover if you also swap the three bolt thermostat housing on to match. Here's mine. I did glue some 180 grit sandpaper on a sheet of glass and passed all three surfaces over it to true them up. No way a gasket won't seal now. Avoid using RTV on gaskets. Sealing is what the gasket does! RTV is only for severe cases where the surfaces might be damaged. That crap squeezes out and looks amateurish, but also squeezes inwards and plugs the rad and cooling holes in the head. 90% of RTV used never needed it. The rule is: If it has a gasket.... it doesn't need RTV. Quote Link to comment
jerryt
Hi. Well I cheated a little. I found a water outlet on eBay and they showed the part number on the picture. The part number is 11060 u0100 and you can order it at Nissan Dealers. It's 27.86 plus tax. Also I found it on Nissans.com for 20.00 I still have to pull the head this afternoon but I thought I would share this. Also if you want to verify this google the part number. Thanks Jerry Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Be sure to secure the timing chain tensioner so it can't fall out when the chain goes slack. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
zcarparts.com has them. I think I even seen rockauto and maybe parts geek https://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1971/nissan/510/cooling_system/thermostat_housing_cover.html use antiseize on all water parts like this ans water pump. helps from the rust. I do all bolts in alum esp sparksplugs I would get a spare lower houseing also with the 16mm nut to hold the sender as spare. Mine alwasy cracked when trying to get the sender out. or get a whole used unit that works Edited October 24, 2024 by banzai510(hainz) Quote Link to comment
