Thomas Perkins
I was looking in my 85 FSM for the oil pressure switch readings.Found nothing.looked on line.Found someone's pinion on idle with is 15 to30 psi.So I am going on what mine has read for 30 years and 3 different new switches. But anyway.I am at the carburetor.I have a oem one and also a brand new oem spare one. This is a diagram of the fuel pump.I never really looked at it hard. Now,I see that it has a spring retainer holding everything in after the gasket.I am going to get mine out of the used parts and take it apart and see if I can fix it.I did try putting a new filter and gaskets in it and it was a no go.I know Nissan sells no inner parts.Has anyone ever took theirs apart? For some reason, you have to look at the Canada section to see the instructions on taking the fuel pump apart.I have showed 2 fuel pumps, they are different, the one with ground wire is under USA and other is under Canada.Mine never had a ground wire hmm. What"s up with this Mike?Plus it is showing different pics of the inside.Canada's pages are more detail. Sephakrid
"Do not disassemble unless pump is faulty." That's too bad. One of my favorite activities is disassembling completely functional fuel pumps! Quote Link to comment

NC85ST
It will be interesting to see what you find. Any idea how many miles that pump has on it? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Have '84 FSM 1st edition and first two pictures are same. maybe they changed over the years and editions? Third is not exactly the same and from a slightly different position and labeled SEF725. Single wire pump, and the fuel filter mounted on the frame, sitting upright with inlet and outlet on the top of it. SEF357 is missing and the picture below it, yours is marked EF189A, mine SEF814 but is exactly the same picture. They are on pages EF and EC 29 and 30 with the pump relay information on 31. I have a wiring diagram marked '83 that shows two wires to pump Black (ground) and Brown. (power) the pump is also marked M for manual transmission so what did automatics use??? not shown. Thomas Perkins
The last 2 fuel pumps I bought were from Courtesy Nissan out of Texas. Nissan no longer sells them. All gone.I do have a brand new one in the box as a spare.I also have a fairly new fuel pump relay.Ebay has some fuel pumps from China that looks oem,the outlets are angled not the same.I don't know if they are good, cheap price.Never heard a automatic having a different fuel pump than a manual.Never seen a site saying that when selling fuel pumps or a Nissan site. Thomas Perkins
I got a 11/16 wrench and took the cover off.The ground wire was real bad, covered with fuel residue like the inside where the gas cap is.I spray mine with clorox every now and then.I took the screw off and the wire and cleaned them with sand paper. Also as you see the center piece has a plastic ball that goes in to let the fuel go thru.It was corroded by the two wires I scrapped them and remove the rust, the two wires go up and down,it is freely moving when I push with finger.I am going to put on my truck and see if it will work. Hoping that the ground wire was not getting a good connection. It that don't do it,then I will start taking it apart.Going to walk to the mailbox, hope my socket is there to take off drain plug we are at the back end of getting mail always in the evening. Thomas Perkins
I just found this on Ebay for sale for 59 bucks,I know and bought from him.He goes to junk yards and gets parts and sells them.He said he applied power to it and it came on.It is as is.But anyway, look at the ground wire.Looks as he cleaned it up to come on.What other reason would he do that?I did that to mine.I will take mine off and put the other one on.If it works.Which may mean that they stop working cause of the dirty ground wire.I could take that one to work if it we're mine and put it in the sand blaster encloser and get all the rust off of it.I use to do my spark plugs.Makes them.look brand new.
