Thomas Perkins
Today I went to check my Manual transmission fluid.I replaced it not long ago with 2 quarts of Redline MT-90.Last time I used a adjustable wrench and a hammer to get the 5/8 inch square plug off. We'll,I didn't get it off.So I found one on Ebay for about 10 bucks. It is a 1/2 inch drive socket with a 5/8 square fitting.I have a long 1/2 drive breaker bar.I also drove to the Nissan dealer since I was going to be in the area and ordered a drain and fill plug.A little over 20 bucks,it will be here in the morning.I saved on shipping if I bought it on line.No auto part stores have the socket to remove the fill plug. datzenmike
The differential drain and fill bungs are the sane thread. I put two drain bungs in my transmission because they have magnets on them to catch and steel sediment. 2 Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
I will do that Mike.Great ideal. Quote Link to comment
DwayneOxford
All farm tractors, dozers, etc. used to use the square head plugs in various sizes. I used to buy them at flea markets, got 2 sets of them. Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
Mine came in today.I am waiting on the socket to take it off.Took less than a day to get them. The warehouse is in Greenville.S.C. Quote Link to comment
ElliotV
I'm surprised yours is 5/8 mine was 7/16 and actually broke a wrench on it changing it when I first got mine. Pretty sure it had never been changed in the 38 years of service and it even gave me some ball bearing cages to remember it by. Still shifts fine and only makes a little noise on the main shaft in neutral. This is why I baseline every vehicle and tell everyone else the same thing. Worst case scenario you got fresh fluid in it. Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
I have a brand new Nissan drain and fill plug I just bought from the Nissan Dealer. They are 5/8..Nissan don't sell that size.I change my fluid real often.Or you have a different transmission. Quote Link to comment

It's entirely possible it was changed only 20 years ago and someone replaced the drain plug with one from a hardware store as well but most of this truck seemed pretty untouched and I think I'm the 3rd owner and bought it from the original owners brother. At least that was my understanding. Quote Link to comment

Thomas Perkins
Hi ya'll.It has been 11 days and no socket. The tracking even said out for delivery awhile back, then said running late.So I sent the Ebay seller a message. He sent one back saying thanks from buying from us and here is your tracking number.I sent another back asking for a refund so I can buy from another seller. They did not reply. Then Ebay sent a message saying they would step in 10-30-24 if the seller does not satisfy by purchase.Ebay has a money back guarantee policy. They helped me out a few times.I believe this seller is a scammer.I tried to get rubber Weber gaskets awhile back and he tried to scam me and Ebay gave me my money back.I always pay with Pay Pal,they are good too.A good rating means nothing and the BBB is also a scam.I tried using them before, what a joke. The seller is JB Tools.Once you put a complaint in and seller does not make it right.Your not able to give them a rating and a beware to other buyers.Sellers on Amazon do the same thing also. The seller also has this socket posted for sale on Amazon.I am not searching for another but not that brand name. Thomas Perkins
They have contacted me and said give them a few more days to see if it gets delivered.,then contact them.I will let Ebay deal with them on October 30.A eight point socket will work but no one local carries it, just 6 and 12 point sockets.Hopefully I can get this one. Thomas Perkins
I heard this before from another seller and Ebay refunded my money. It's not about the 10 dollars,it's about checking my transmission fluid. He will not get a bad rating from me if Ebay has to step in and refund my money. But will have to deal with Ebay.Once Ebay sends a message saying I am getting a refund then the part that I bought from them disappears. So no ratings is allowed by me.The shipping carrier has no method other what you see on your tracking. How are they working closely with the carrier? Thomas Perkins
Guess what. The 5/8 inch socket is too small. The size needed is 17 mm.The 11/16 is too big.It has to be a 8 point to fit.I am having a hard time finding one.I will give it a try again with my adjustable wrench and hammer. If it comes off,I will put my new drain plug with magnet there.I got the 5/8 socket today. Some places that sell says they are out.One is on Ebay that says it is for 280z.One is sold out, others want too much.DATSUN 17mm Square Drain Plug Socket KTC Tool 凹 (For: NISSAN 280Z 240K R31 R32). Sephakrid
I just changed the trans oil on my 94 Pathfinder last weekend and remembered that I use a Koken 17mm 8 point socket (part# Koken 4109M-17). I'm 99% sure it's the same socket I use for the 720, but will verify tomorrow. Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
They are out.I looked last night. I just got the plug off with W.D. 40 and my big adjustable wrench,I taped it with my 8 lb sledge hammer one time and that loosened it.My fluid was full and clean.I drained it and put it back in.Nothing was on the magnet.I had this transmission put in back in 2017.Also had a new yoke put in back then too.I did what what you said Mike.I put one of my drain plugs with magnet in the filler hole. Now it takes my 1/2 inch breaker bar to get both off. Here are some pic. This 10 dollar pump from Harbor Freight pumps super fast. This the bad yoke.See the wear marks. It was causing vibration. Was a original Nissan yoke.So if your's vibrates, could be this. Also replaced the U'joints first. But it was the yoke.I would get up to 55 and it would shake, also made a noise.
