Nicholas7620
My 76 B210 sat since 2020, It started right up on Sat AM, but the clutch has no pressure, and I couldn't get the system to firm up. I replaced the slave and clutch master, new fluid and the clutch still won't firm up. I put a plastic tube on the Zerk of the slave and ran the tube into a cup of Brake Fluid, pumped the clutch, air bubbles came through the cup. but that didn't work either. I've never has this problem, I've replace a few slaves and I don't know what's going on. Thanks for any comments, thoughts ... Best I'm stumped, the old brake fluid was black, now it's a clear yellow. Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Did you bench bleed the master? Sometimes air can get trapped in it when knew.... I made a small curved brakeline to pump the fluid back up and into the clutch master.... Then press the pedal to the floor and hold it there... Next cover the end of the brakeline with your finger . Then release the pedal... This should purge the air, try that 2 or 3 times till you get nice stream of fluid when the pedal is pushed.... Once you do cover the end with your finger and have the helper lightly press the pedal.... they should feel the resistance . Now reconnect the slave and bleed like normal.... Hope that helps... Nicholas7620
That's smart, I didn't think to run my tube up to the clutch master and I'll do it. I did not bench bleed the clutch master, I'm not sure what that entails. Sounds like fun, I'll give it a try and ask around and search internet. I'd like to learn how to bench bleed my master. Best What i described is bench bleeding..... It usually would get done before installation but can be accomplished as I described... it's what I had to do even after the normal pump and hold method and vacuum bleeding.... Quote Link to comment
Nicholas7620
ok, I have an hour to mess around, I really like the idea of running the tube back up to the master reservoir, then go to work. How do you post pics with an iphone? Just thinking... Quote Link to comment

I like using that because the photos don't get lost.... 3rd party hosting of the pictures sucks.. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Just disconnect the hard line at the clutch master. Get a piece of old brake line and connect it to the master and bend the line back till it empties into the reservoir. Pump clutch pedal till all bubbles stop. Then reconnect the line. Bleed the master normally. Quote Link to comment

The hard line is very difficult to get back on and rethreaded by me, Mike, ... at least I was getting bubbles and the clutch reservoir would empty and when I tightened everything back up no bubbles, no firmness from clutch... I'm at work...Best (The small hose I have should reach the master reservoir, I'm looking forward to trying this out, Best Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
You don't have to return the fluid to the master, you can just squirt it out into a container. Just get all the bubbles out. Quote Link to comment

Maybe you don't have too but the way I described it worked really good for me... 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Absolutely, it only has to work. I've never had to actually pump the clutch to bleed it. I open the bleeder and gravity pulls the fluid down. Quote Link to comment

Slave cylinder replacement was not a big deal. I can only play with my Datsun on weekends. I'll prioritize the clutch. I need a win. Removing the carb is tougher than the clutch for me, big hands and finding jets and all,, I'm focusing on stocks, bonds and our awesome economy, Best Quote Link to comment

Personally I never understood this weither you fill it or run it back to the master . it doesnt know !!! Long as the master is full. I had a clutch master not work. I put my finger over the hole inside and had soemone pump it and then it worked. Why I dont know. the liquid itself should have created the vaccume needed but it work I bleed the clutch and slave just as you do in a bottle part full and let it gravity bleed then I pump it with the zerk open till no more bubbles(clear IV line from the hospital) and then close it. I'll go over to my Datsun and try firming up the clutch, in a few hours. I'm slammed with work. I saw the black hole. I was trying to bleed the clutch alone w/o assistance. Quote Link to comment
