martjoe
Hello All: Any recommendations on a good Electronic Ignition for a stock 1973 620 Pickup with duel points? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Joe Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
1/ There were two later EI distributors for L20B 4 cylinder vehicles. All '78s had the Remote Igniter but the electronics was in a transistor unit under the dash inside the vehicle. Hard to get the wiring but it's easy enough to wire an older HEI module from a GM product. That would be the A10 200sx, the A10 HL510 and the 620 truck. All after '78 got the EI Matchbox distributor that mounted the electonicason the outside of the distributor. That would be the S10 200sx, the A10 HL510, the 620. The '80 720 truck also had them. The early non California emissions Z20 engine used only 4 spark plugs and also used a matchbox distributor. That would be the '80 A10 and the '80-'81 S110 200sx. In all cases get the distributor with the base pedestal, it will make things much easier installing them on an L16. You will need the matching EI coil to go with it to get the 'hotter' spark and remove your ballast resister. 2/ Get a single points L series distributor and install a Pertronics unit on it. Won't fit a dual points distributor. It eliminates the points but does not give the higher voltage. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
The top information is for the Nissan EI system and includes a high output coil for a much hotter spark than the points coil. The bottom info on the Pertronix just removes the points and replaces with an electronic breakerless system. The coil and ballast remain the same and you never see any improvement other than you don't have to replace the points ever again. Quote Link to comment
