datzenmike
Move the floor plate? Just drill new holes. A car L20B would have the same/similar 4 speed but not from a 620 they were 71B. Quote Link to comment
Pounding Rox Truck Shop
I can drill new holes but was trying to save that as a last ditch kind of thing. I figure there might a Datsun frankenstein parts issue that I wasn't familiar with causing things to not want to line up before drilling holes. 1 Quote Link to comment
Pounding Rox Truck Shop
Now I know these are being 3D printed but finding an OEM one in the wild is much more satisfying and 'original' for what is not an original truck. 1 Quote Link to comment
Pounding Rox Truck Shop
Oh and the cab is now fully bolted to the frame for the first time in 40+ years. I know I show me only half done in the vid but it's fully done now. 2 Quote Link to comment
Pounding Rox Truck Shop
Fedex dropped off a box with my bearings in it. I will see what I got when I get home. If they are right I can finally get this damn steering gear back together and move on to the next phase of this truck. 1 Quote Link to comment
Pounding Rox Truck Shop
I did some initial reassembly and the box is binding pretty bad. Lots of crunchy noises in there even with spray grease just for testing. I took it back apart and stuck the box itself in our parts washer. I rewatched BlueHands video on this and think I am going to spend more time on this Saturday when I can be in the shop undisturbed. I know the whole assembly was abused over the years, I just hope it isn't too damaged invisibly to be any good. We shall see. 1 Quote Link to comment

Pounding Rox Truck Shop
I am digging the AR61s on this truck, gives it a drift truck look. I have too many wheel choices here and they all look good on this truck. 2 Quote Link to comment

Pounding Rox Truck Shop
Received one of 320newb's underhood VIN plates and it looks great! I am probably order another on that swaps the L16 engine line with an L20b to match the truck. 1 Quote Link to comment

Pounding Rox Truck Shop
There are good things about this L20b and there are things I need to address. Overall it is not a terrible start but there are changes I want to make. Mostly the 'hot plate' exhaust manifold and related. I'd love to switch to side drafts but one step at a time. It ran with fuel in the bowl but that was once and I guarantee the only time it has run since being set on the frame. It may have been gone through...it might be stock. I have no way of telling without taking it apart. Either way, here's the L20b and pardon my ignorance, I don't know these like I do the KA24e. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The '78-'80 cars and truck L20Bs had the separated intake/exhaust and your down pipe should fit this. I also had the co-joined manifolds and put a '79 truck intake on but at the same time switched to the 4 into 2 L16 cast iron exhaust. This is more involved as you need the twin down pipe. Additionally the U67 head needs two 3/8" holes drilled to let coolant into the runners. The outlet from the runners exits the intake near the front base of the carburetor and has to be piped to the thermostat by pass hose. This can be recovered from the L20B you get the manifolds from. or make something up. 1 Quote Link to comment

Pounding Rox Truck Shop
And... fuel cell brackets on order. Not saying these are going in right away but it's nice to have in case a window of opportunity opens up. 1 Quote Link to comment
