obrut
I bought one of these for my 72 510 https://www.ebay.com/itm/380328219994 It says its for the later 510s but judging from the pictures it looks like the right one. I got it and and compared it to the one on my car and it is the same but is about 1/2" shorter in the overall length. It does say made in Japan and 555 on it. Is his listing wrong or is there something I'm missing? If its the right one then it seems like a really good deal. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
if its shorter then its not the same. Just my opimion here Quote Link to comment
iceman510
Misleading statement in the explanation. Appears it fits the A10 (later 510) where they say the 1974-on PL510, which is not accurate. H6200 would not usually be a PL510 number series unless superseded later. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
48560-21400 21401 and U2000 are PL510 and 610 48560-H6200 is for the B210 and S10 48560-W5725 is for the A10 HL510 and the 210 Quote Link to comment

DARIN 510
Yah I bought the same one too a couple years ago 🤦♂️. I think it’s for a B210 and 1200. The A10 has a different set up. It would work for a PL510 if it was an inch wider. Quote Link to comment
obrut
sorry about that, I was trying to attach one on my phone and it wouldn't work. Quote Link to comment
iceman510
You have installed it, but if it's shorter it changes the sweep of the steering box. Also your tie rods assemblies will need to be longer. Not sure how this would affect on-center feel of the steering if the gear box and idler arm are not pointed straight ahead at static position. datzenmike
If shorter then the pitman and the idler arm are turned in towards each other slightly. If turning right the left wheel will turn faster and further than the idler arm side wheel. If left the opposite would be true. Ive adjusted the steering toe in and even the slightest adjustment makes huge differences in the steering on the road. Only time the steering would be normal is straight ahead. You could shim the steering box and the idler arm away from the sides of the frame to get them both parallel to each other. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Bump steer is controlled by the length of the tie rod vs the length of the control arm. If the tie rod is longer than the control arm, you are going to get bump steer. Toe out in this case. Might be worth while to take a few measurements to see if your toe changes during the suspension cycle. Easy enough to do without the springs on place. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
I agree with you guys, it can affect a lot of things, but I wonder if 1/4" per side will really matter (as in, did Nissan really do a thorough job to begin with on steering geometry?!). Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Well, as Fred Jones would say, there's one way to find out. Measure it. https://y.yarn.co/bf6a5feb-0d66-41a7-916f-a856f7de3ada.mp4 Quote Link to comment
obrut
If I can get in the attic tonight I'll get my stock one down and double check the lengths again. I wasn't thinking about the length being the fit issue. I thought the angle of the tie rods to the steering box ball joint or the tapper or hole size. obrut
The measurements from center to center on the pitman/steering arm are 21.5" on the new and 22" on the old. On the tie rods center to center, 18" on the new and 18.5" on the old. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
1/2 inch looks worse than thinking about it. 1 Quote Link to comment
KELMO
This now has me wondering if I compared my old to new and I really don't remember. Guess I'll be investigating that in the near future. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Again, I'd remove the springs and cycle suspension. You might be scared when you see what the numbers are. Quote Link to comment
obrut
Can the ball joint be pressed out of the center link? Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Nope. I'm sure someone can do it, but the caps are crimped on. I've taken them apart before and welded the caps on, but that was an emergency trail fix. Quote Link to comment
