ZL 2.3 4x4 fit

I test fit my ZL 2.3 into my 1983 4WD. Z22 block, L20b brackets, stock engine isolators. 

 

The back corner of the oil pan will need some smashering but otherwise it'll fit. About 12" between the head and big brake booster. Lots of room for carbies.

How does the oil pan look when tilted 20 degrees to the right?

What transmission did you use?

Hi Mike. I think I'm back in the market for your '80 4wd oil pan. I found some parts to' 80ize the truck. 

 

I have a 5spd from a '80 L20b truck.

Not really. I have a spare.

Smashing an oil pan can push the pan too close to the pickup and can even damage the pickup.

 

But I suppose you know what you're doing.

I've got 3 types of hammer and a vise to bend the oil pickup. I planned this out.

Very unlikely any oil pickup tube will reach down into the 4x4 pan except the 4x4 pickup.

 

It's a tube. All it will do is pinch closed. (kink)

 

I'll have a search around for that oil pickup tube. The L20B 4x4 pickup tube has a steel support strut that bolts onto it and one of the main bearing caps. It's not like I would throw anything Datsun away.

You have the tube too? You are a treasure Mike! 

 

Near as I can tell it looks closer to a 2WD one, but has a mount for a bolt mid bend in the tube. It's a single secure plate as opposed to the dual plat Z 4WD mounting.

I'll look for it. It travels quite a way over to the left side to access the pan that deeper to the left.
