Whitebuck86
Hello I was given a 720 that I know ran before the dash caught fire. I want to use it just around my farm. My question is can I make it run without the harness… like you would on a engine stand. I have a switch for fuel pump that functions and I have power to my starter on a push button.. I have 12 volts to the coils but I have zero spark. I’m lost on why I’m not getting any spark at the distributor.. the crank position plug has 5 wires and I have 12v on two of the pins I believe… any info is appreciated like I said the trucks never leaving the farm I just need it to run. wayno
If it has 2 coils you likely need the wiring harness as it has an ECU, the only way I know to make it run without the ECU is to put a Matchbox distributor out of a late 620 or 1980 Datsun 720 with an L20b in it as I have seen that done before, I am not sure what 4 plugs in the head are used, I also don't know what type of plugs are used. Sounds like you have a Crank Angle Sensor. If so, you have a Z24i engine with electronic fuel injection. All the electronics is in the cab and under the driver seat so if the fire includes the wiring harness coming into the cab behind the glove box.... you're finished. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Convert it to run on a regular distributor and a basic carburetor, like a Weber DGV. You could run it this way with about three wires. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You would need a Z24 intake and carburetor, spindle and distributor. *One wire for choke heater *One wire for idle cut *One power wire to power the distributor module and both coil positives. One wire each to the coil negative sides and to the module. * You could combine these together to an ignition switch. 1 Quote Link to comment
