620slodat
I have a 1982 720 diesel frame and I am wondering if the D21 UCA will fit the 1982 front suspension, or with only a little bit of modifying work. Not beyond a bit of modification IF the modification doesn't compromise the integrity of Mike's work. I am impressed with the quality of his work, and quality speaks for itself. I have spent a fair amount of time doing a search and so far have come up with nothing. The reason I am wondering is because Mike Klotz (bluehands video) is making the D21 UCA, and I like what I see when I look at his D21 bracket to the frame for the UCA. I know it is a long shot, but I need to know for sure. I have not contacted Mike Klotz yet either as he is busy and I don't want to take up his time unnecessarily. I am considering going to an aftermarket/coilover suspension to get the benefits of coilovers and get rid of the torque arms. Not saying for sure I will do this, but I need to know everything in order to make the decision. Don Edited July 5, 2022 by 620slodat Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Spindles, vented rotor and calipers from the '83 and up 720 and the D21 will fit the earlier 720. I don't think the UCA needs to be changed. What do you have and what are you trying to do? Quote Link to comment

I don't think the UCA needs to be changed. What do you have and what are you trying to do? I was aware that the spindles, rotors, and calipers were able to be interchanged between the 720 and D21. Thank you for making sure of that. First of all I have a 1982 diesel frame (thank you wayno), and an apparently low mileage 1981 diesel SD22 motor and transmission. I MIGHT be changing front suspension from the torsion bars to a coilover, depending on cost, availability of the parts, and my final decision. I need to know all the good and bad of this change. The reasons are the adjustability of the suspension and clearance for the diesel exhaust. My future plans are for a possible turbo and the space needed for a larger exhaust down pipe (size?) coming out of the turbo. My plans also include a larger exhaust (size?). Mike Klotz is doing a D21 UCA with a special price until July 20, and I like his quality. What I am needing to know is if I change the UCA to a D21 will the D21 bracket for the UCA bolt up to the 720 frame. The UCA that Mike Klotz makes has a lot of adjustability built into it (if needed), but the bracket between the UCA and the frame is my question. Will it fit? Or will it need some adjusting to make it fit? I know that the UCA for the 720 frame is bolted on the inside of the frame, and the D21 bracket is bolted to the outside of the frame, and will need to be dealt with. I have more ideas, and I have been doing a lot of researching, but this question is what this is about and what I have found nothing definitive for. 620slodat
Also, will the coilovers fit the stock UCA of the 1982 frame? Don Quote Link to comment
