IHaveNoIdeaWhatIAmDoing
So I am looking for a replacement transmission for my truck. Its a 1983 720 with the 2.4l. I have found one that is out of a 4x2 truck, is there any difference between the two seeing as the 4x4 uses a divorced transfer case. Maybe a different length? Quote Link to comment
bottomwatcher
4x4s don't have the speedo in the trans it's in the transfer case. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Can I assume from your post that you have a 4x4????? If yes, a 2 wheel drive transmission will work just fine as long as the lengths are the same or if you also get the matching longer or shorter primary driveshaft. Oil may seep from the unused speedometer pinion sleeve. I cut the screw on end from a spare speedometer cable and RTVd the hole closed. Then just screwed it onto the pinion sleeve.
