720kingkab
do all of my wires appear to be on correct posts ? i did swap the positive & negative on the new coil that is not working, and new coil is still dead (so i am going to move those wires back to where they were ) the other new coil fires great and engine started right up but same 2nd coil has no spark like before so either the distributor is only for 4 plugs or the thing inside distributor that spins is not touching? (but when i swap coil to cap wires at dist cap... the good coil fires in either hole on dist cap) or i have something else wrong Edited January 13, 2022 by 720kingkab Quote Link to comment

That wire goes to the middle terminal. The other two don't really matter as they go to the coil negative terminals. Quote Link to comment
720kingkab
find the key-on wire of the 3 inside the distributor ? Quote Link to comment
720kingkab
is it possible the ign module thing with wires hooked to go bad ever ? Edited January 13, 2022 by 720kingkab Quote Link to comment
720kingkab
could i move the wires inside this harness block so both coils share the mount posts of the coil that does work ? the bottom one (farthest to right in pic) with black wires is my main hot 12v that is also on center inside dist on ign module correct ? Yes, I think it should be the middle terminal. 3 minutes ago, 720kingkab said: is it possible the ign module thing with wires hooked to go bad ever ? Yes, but best to be sure the old one is bal or not wired properly I see 3 wires correct? Quote Link to comment

Not likely. They have different diameter lugs to prevent mixing them up. Quote Link to comment

720kingkab
should both coils be firing at all times regardless of rpm ? or 2nd coil fire just under certain throttle or acceleration positions? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Both fire together at all times. The 4 wire module can shut off one coil under certain conditions. Quote Link to comment
720kingkab
with key in ON posotion when i test each lead inside the dist block with 3 different size lug posts all measure 11.44 volts are greater each of the 3 lugs inside the dist itself on the ign module also measure 11.44 volts and fluctuate a little with key in run position with key off none of the posts have any voltage Quote Link to comment
720kingkab
let me measure voltage at the dead coil posts now Quote Link to comment
720kingkab
with key on each post on dead coil measures 11.44 on dmm when 1 lead of dmm is on either coil post and other lead of dmm is grounded to truck metal Quote Link to comment
720kingkab
let me reconnect everything then try swapping out coil to cap wires on both coils to see if 1 coil to cap plug wire is bad Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Pull the wires off the module terminals and test for 12v Quote Link to comment
720kingkab
ok still nothing. the good coil fires perfectly regardless of which hole in top of dist cap i put wire in. i measured ohms on each coil to cap plug wire and they both measure same impedance so the coil to cap wires are good Quote Link to comment
