shawninvancouver
i am looking at the plug with six wires. I tried my test light by grounding it and probing all six holes.. no power with wiper on.. fuse is ok... what else ? am i doing something wrong? thanks Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Any time the ignition is on there is a power lead to the motor. The power is used to park the wiper when the switch is turned off. The wiper switch simply provides a ground for the already powered motor. As a rule the Blue/Red stripe has constant power when ignition on even if the wiper switch is off. Quote Link to comment
shawninvancouver
ok.. so what do i do..? undo the tape around wires going to the plug.. find blue/red and see if there is power there? - what if there is no power there? i was getting a clicking before, but after i took motor off and worked on it there rested it on hood and tested it.. - it would click once then stop... also the washer clicked before now it only clicks once then stops.. im looking for the old honda wiper motor... datzenmike
Pull the harness plug away from the wiper motor. Turn wiper and ignition on. Test the harness end Blue/Red wire for power. No power means the fuse is probably blown. Is there anything else that electrically does not work? They may also be on that fuse. The washer is just a pump. It should whine slightly and water squirt out the hoses. Quote Link to comment
shawninvancouver
ok - cool.. tested blue red and have power there... so next step i think is get a new motor.... is there any thing else to test now that i have power there??? Quote Link to comment
shawninvancouver
can i test other wires in the wiper plug? would the other wires be for other speeds?? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I don't know the Z car wiper or how similar it is to all other Datsun wipers. Quote Link to comment
shawninvancouver
only power to blue red.... no other power on wiper plug with car on and switch on med low and hi ... power will not show anywhere else on plug.. is it even possilble to test for power on that wiper plug by using a test light?? shawninvancouver
what is that red blue?? used to have power all the time now no power... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
No idea and I don't have a wire diagram. Check for a bad fuse or one not making contact. Don't go by visual, use test lamp. Should be 12v on both sides with ignition on. Quote Link to comment
shawninvancouver
does the wiper switch ground the wiper motor? so when i test it i should hook my test light up to the + on the battery and see if certain grounds will complete the cicuit in the wiper plug??? previously i was thinking i would see power on the wiper plug -- Quote Link to comment

shawninvancouver
yes i got that blue red with power... but will there ever be any other with power? a pal said all other wires are grounds... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Sort of true. Some wires go right back to the motor. Again I don't have a Z car diagram. Quote Link to comment
shawninvancouver
any clue how to test the motor if i have 3 black wires coming out of it... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Power goes through one of the motor windings and out one of the black wires to ground at the wiper speed switch. To go faster a second motor winding is grounded by the wiper switch and for high speed all 3 windings are grounded. I'm guessing here. Quote Link to comment
shawninvancouver
So I’m simple terms how do I test the motor? Ground where abs power to where ? The only time I got clicking I had power to the blue red. Then tried grounding all over abs one wire gave a click. Quote Link to comment

Blue/Red power. Try grounding each of the other black wires. Quote Link to comment
shawninvancouver
Yup. Did that and all I got was clicking at the best. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Then I would say the motor isn't working. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Post pictures of the motor & wires coming off of it. Quote Link to comment

thisismatt
Well...that's hard to follow 😅 Can you add a picture of the harness plug with wire colors visible? From what I gather you should have: Blue/red stripe = switched +12V power Yellow = intermittent amplifier switched ground Black = dedicated ground Blue/white stripe = grounded by wiper switch in every position except off Blue/yellow stripe = grounded along with blue/white stripe in high position Solid blue = grounded along with blue/white stripe in low position; connected to LY of intermittent amplifier in intermittent position; connected to LY of intermittent amplifier in off position I don't know what's going on inside the intermittent amplifier box, though. I would think the motor would run with... Blue/red stripe = +12V power Black = grounded Blue = grounded along with blue/white stripe Quote Link to comment
shawninvancouver
Ok. Do I need to ground the black and the blue to get it to run? I was only grounding black and pos to blue red. Only clicking. im confused. How many wires need to nd grounded? Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
I would suggest, to get it to run at low speed... Blue/red stripe = +12V power Black = grounded Blue = grounded blue/white stripe = grounded 1 Quote Link to comment
