That is happening everywhere AFAIK, primarily due to the chemicals to do proper chrome. I noticed as the chroming gave way gradually to silver-painted plastic with clear overtop, that the quality of chrome was really declining, what was previously a multi-layer job appeared to become minimal and chrome just wasn't as durable anymore. San Diego is on the Southern US Border with Mexico, and there are a few shops that run it over to Mexico and have it done there. I'm about 90 miles from San Diego, so that's also a possibility. .When I was working on the wagon, I got in good with a paint store in San Diego, and the fellow who helped me has a Brother in law who worked for a major paint supplier. He would get me non-compliant stuff from Mexico. My receipts from him were from Mexican Body Shop companies. 🙂 1 Quote Link to comment
