Hmmmm. I prefer the smooth look but they certainly do change the look.

I put them on carefully, and I can change them easily enough.  The chrome on the bumpers is ok for a driver, but there is some copper spots peeking through on the back bumper.  Chrome shops here in Cali have gone the way of the dinosaurs.

The guards are part of my magic trick to not notice the not-so-perfect chrome of the bumpers.

That is happening everywhere AFAIK, primarily due to the chemicals to do proper chrome. I noticed as the chroming gave way gradually to silver-painted plastic with clear overtop, that the quality of chrome was really declining, what was previously a multi-layer job appeared to become minimal and chrome just wasn't as durable anymore. But that's my observation/speculation, I was never in that business.

There are also some shops in San Diego that offer chroming.  San Diego is on the Southern US Border with Mexico, and there are a few shops that run it over to Mexico and have it done there.  I'm about 90 miles from San Diego, so that's also a possibility.

.When I was working on the wagon, I got in good with a paint store in San Diego, and the fellow who helped me has a Brother in law who worked for a major paint supplier. He would get me non-compliant stuff from Mexico.   My receipts from him were from Mexican Body Shop companies.  🙂
