datzenmike
If you have synthetic oil in there switch back to 90w. Keep in mind if you can't find a seal. The Nissan part number is 33114-C6901 Says > $5 but hell I paid $20. 2 Quote Link to comment
IHaveNoIdeaWhatIAmDoing
Thanks for the help, was using 80w-90, i will try to find some straight 90w. Also thanks for the seal number that helps a lot. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
No no no... 80w90 is fine. I was thinking you may have changed to synthetic. I did and my transfer case started leaking. 2 Quote Link to comment
bottomwatcher
I have seen rebuild kits for these. They contain new seals so they should be available. Seals have a number on them and are basically a generic number like bearings. 1 Quote Link to comment
MaddieCycle
I have a leak too. Still trying to isolate where it is leaking from. What is involved in replacing seals? How many are there? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Top front seal leaks where the primary drive shaft attaches is common as the (as I was told) oil is less likely to splash and lubricate it, and it dries out. All three seals need the companion flange unbolted and 'drawn off' to get at the seal. I've had good luck tapping on the back side of the flange with a large socket. Takes a lot of tapping but the flange slides off the spline. The seal can be pried out with a screwdriver and a new one tapped into place. I had to do all three of mine because I had switched to synthetic oil and that shit leaks past anything. Grease the seal lips so it doesn't run dry on start up. Quote Link to comment
IHaveNoIdeaWhatIAmDoing
When I did mine I used a 3 jaw pulley puller, there is a dimple in the shaft that is perfect to set the shaft of the puller in. Also there are three seals in the transfer case. One for the input and one of each of the outputs. Edited October 18, 2021 by IHaveNoIdeaWhatIAmDoing Quote Link to comment
frankendat
Cobra transmission sells seals for the T100L transfer case. It takes 3 to replace them all. The do not carry any other seals for the Nissan transfer case. https://cobratransmission.com/BW1361-Seal-334076 Quote Link to comment
MaddieCycle
It actually seems to be leaking from the speedometer cable connection, and maybe from the case itself where the two halves join. Anyone know the speedometer cable part number? Does the case leak at the split? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The larger O ring seals into the case and the smaller one seals the pinion shaft. The large one is a snug fit, probably the smaller as it is sealing a spinning shaft. Pull the roll pin and out comes the pinion. Small seal #32709-14600* * This seal is on almost every Nissan/Datsun with a mechanical/speed sensor speedometer made. The 720 doesn't list it separately as it's included with the speedometer sleeve as an assembly. This is from all other 71B transmissions and should work in the transfer cases. 2 Quote Link to comment
MaddieCycle
Thanks Mike, any idea on the P/N for the larger one? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
32710-14600 for the larger O ring. 2 Quote Link to comment
stingraylx1
www.midwesttrans.com, Zumbrota, MN. They should have what you need for your transfer case, they also rebuild them. I had them rebuild my TC 2 years ago and they are top notch. They also rebuild Manual Transmissions, great workmanship and they know what they are doing. They also have a custom driveline shop. 1 Quote Link to comment
