Sr20 types for 75 620

Recommended Posts

So recently I did some searching around on the internet for an SR20 to fit in my 75 620 and I noticed that there are different types of sr20s,, as far as red top, black top, or blue top, does it Matter which one I get to fit in to the 620 or is it the same kind of fab work all the way around?

i know of black and red top, havent heard of blue top? they should all be the same, just make sure it's an SR20det. USDM sr20's like mentioned above are technically the same block but that's about it... came in sentra's i think ? they're junk.

I believe the engine mounts are on the front and there is nothing on the sides of the block for RWD. In addition the CAS/distributor is driven out the rear of the head, placing it in the firewall of a RWD vehicle.

Red top was S13.

Silver top was s14

And black top came from S15.

The s14s had VVT.

The s15 motors had the T28r (ball bearing) turbo.

Red top from s13, non VVT

Silver top is non existing as far as i know

S14 and S15 both had black tops. There is a blacktop with a notch and a black top without. The notch is VVT.
The s15 blacktop has smaller holes for the coil packs.

The blacktops have T28 turbo's

The s15 has ball bearing turbo's

But all black tops are available as non turbo as wel.

You need a RWD sr20, no FWD or AWD, they wont fit because no RWD gearbox will fit those engine blocks.

any more info @5t341tH?

I have an s14 motor which had a raw aluminium cam cover. It was removed from a facelift s14 which was imported from Japan by a friend. (He removed it to fit an RB30det)

Another friend had a Mazda b1600 flat deck with the exact same engine. (His was the reason I decided to build an sr 620)

Perhaps I should add these engines are DE, not DET.
