I actually have a buddy who did this the summer after we graduated waaaaay back in the 90’s.  He stayed with state highway and was a heavy equipment operator making six figures by the time we were 25.  He liked it.

State job gets you a pension. Not many people know what that is these days. Every under 30 year old kid voted to get rid of the pension at Boeing. Give it a few years and those dumb fucks will vote the union out. Wait for it, 1 year later they will be working for minimum wage. Whatever!
