Draker
What color is the tach needle? Quote Link to comment
Draker
From what I understand the DET motor is coil on plug. Tagging @Icehouse he's got a handful of these, in 510s. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Early tachs were white needle but switched to orange. Both were inductive and had to be wired in line, or in series, between the coil and the distributor. The later tachs were all orange needle and used a single wire to the coil negative terminal. It was common to paint the needle the newer orange color. The needle color aside there were series or parallel tachs. 2 Quote Link to comment

Even earlier tachometers for the roadster had a side driven spur gear on an extended distributor shaft. It drove an inductive cup like the speedometer. Instead of wheel or driveshaft rotation it showed distributor rotation which was directly indicative of the engine RPM. 2 Quote Link to comment
