How are you "sandwiching" the two pieces together to fit around the steel ? Are you routing a groove into the inner halves to fit around the metal ?

Yes sir. On my circle cutting jig there are three "settings". One for the groove, one for the inner edge, and one for the outer edge. You can see the groove in this photo.

No, I meant the whole graphic. Is it something you created in Photoshop, then printed?

No sir, I have a bit of a sticker collecting addiction. I probably currently have around 300-400 of them. I just went through them and picked out things I liked/wanted for this.

That is so crazy.  If you recall, we were discussing this at lunch today.  I was just now coming in to ask if that was individual stickers or the sticker bomb wrap you mentioned.  Asked and answered.  Thanks.

It occurs to me that I have never thrown away a steering wheel, regardless of how ugly it is...

And this is one of those...   😄

Got some work done on this one this week...

I had some big pieces of 3/4" thick white pine, so I set up my circle cutting jig and got to work...

That yielded these two rings...

Routed the spoke grooves and gave it a test fit...

It's gonna be a thick daddy...

Not sure what I want to do on finish yet...

Thinking maybe a bit of shō sugi ban, because pine looks very nice when you burn it...

Here's a guitar I toasted awhile back...

Girthy. 😄

Sho sugi ban is always cool, especially if you match it to a shift knob.

I've long wanted to do a shift knob with lichtenburg burning in it starting from the top of the ball and going down the sides.  Not sure that idea would carry over to steering wheels very well though.  Man, I really need to learn to get along better with wood so I can start dabbling in this.

It still needs a lot of sanding, so it will get at least a little smaller...  😄

I think you need reasonably thick (or hard/dense) wood to do that. I am fairly sure this would crack if I tried that... 😋

It would be wicked cool on a shift knob, though. That gives me ideas...   😈

Not my style but I'm glad someone cares to try this. The farthest I have gone is to throw the stock 710 wheel, the one that's like wrapping your fingers around a wire coat hanger, and substituting a stock zx padded one on.
