The car didn’t have a working horn when I bought it. Not only did the steering wheel not have a working horn button but there were no horns at all. So I bought a used oem steering wheel and some some Nissan sport horns.

but I still wasn’t getting any sound. So I dove into some electrical troubleshooting. Here’s what I found.

Also bought a new plastic battery tray.

with the battery out I got to see what 30+ years of battery corrosion will do to Japanese metal. Lol. So I added that to the list of metal work more on that later.

Replaced door switches because my dome light was not working. Nothing like new oem parts.

New oem bolt for the steering u-joint. Lock washer on old one was toast.

Brand new passenger taillight socket holder! The old one had broken clips and would not stay in place.

And scored a fuse box cover at the PnP.

Damn, you’re getting there. Did you get through the CARB inspection (or whatever it’s called down there)?

I just got an 89’ S13 Hatch to start on. So I’m right there with you.

Thanks! Here in CA We have to do a smog test anytime there’s a change of ownership and also every two years once it’s in your name. I did it last December and passed with flying colors. After putting all the factory emissions equipment back on of course. Lol

What’s up dudes? It’s been a long time since my last post so settle in while I catch you up.

Back in 2022 I decided to replace the t-stat as well as the power steering hoses along with some other maintenance  stuff. It was a slow process and finished it up in September.

Was super stoked! But then, disaster hit. I was driving back home from picking up girlfriend on the freeway when the car just did a fat jerk and started knocking. Long story short, the engine spun a rod. So got it home and parked it while it waited its turn.

Fast forward to this year. In January I got offered a spot in a shop with some other friends and jumped on it. So I pushed the car out of its spot and towed it up.

Pulled the engine and started the revival process. The plan was to build the KA for boost

But after draining the oil and pulling the pan it wasn’t looking good. Magnetic drain plug was not a good sign. lol.

So, I had to figure out if I was going to try and salvage this engine or do a swap of some kind. Had some friends tell me I should go VQ. But then, I saw this on marketplace and had to jump on it. lol.

So I’ve been slowly collecting parts. ECU, MAF, CAS, tranny etc. according to the guy I bought the SR from, it had good compression. So I’ll just be replacing everything I can short of separating the head and block. Ordered a new wiring specialties harness and took the old one out. Gave the engine bay a good cleaning yesterday.

This thing was a bitch to get out!

So that’s where I am. Still waiting on engine parts but In the meantime I’m going to spruce up the engine bay and touch up some of the paint.

Stay tuned!

FWIW, if you can find an SR bellhousing (actually front half of case), you can reuse 90% of your KA transmission. That's what I did when I swapped my S13, and it worked just fine. Swapping it over was pretty simple, too.

Oh yea I did read that. I was able to find a SR tranny local to me so that was nice. Hopefully it’s in good shape. The KA tranny that was in the car was pretty toast and would grind going into 2nd if you didn’t baby it.
