Sd25 and trans would be closest to fitting since they are 720 drivetrain.

 

OM series Mercedes are small great motors but expect a 4 speed manual or hand built bell housing.  I was looking at an om617 for a while as a swap option.

 

Tdi with Toyota trans is compact and common in 4x4 world.

 

4bt is the 4 cylinder version of the dodge Cummins 12 valve.  Massively expensive though.  Cummins also came out with some sweet swap designed crate motors a couple years back if you just have cash to burn.
