datzenmike
You're referring to setting the timing with a timing lamp? The timing light will have instructions on how to set it up and use it. On the L16 there is a metal pointer bolted to the timing chain cover below the distributor and pointing to the back edge of the crankshaft pulley. There are several notches on the crankshaft pulley. As the pulley turns clockwise the last notch to pass by the pointer is TDC (top dead center) Each notch to the right (before TDC) is a 50 ? advance. Clean and mark each notch with a white marker so it's easier to see in the strobe light. Loosen the 8mm bolt so the distributor can just barely be turned by hand left or clockwise will advance the timing and right or counter clockwise with retard the timing. You want 120 Before TDC It's been a long while since I owned my '72 so there are several current owners that may correct my mistakes. 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
What timing are you talking about? The title doesn't say much and it's assumed you meant ignition. Cam timing then??? 2 Quote Link to comment
