hobospyder
Its kinda a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" sort of situation" like yeah I want to support american businesses and economy but there's a lot of extra that comes with that Give me an american company that sells american products and does quick and cheap shipping and I'm all over it. Currently waiting to have money to buy some american made coveralls. See how long it takes for them to get here. You're doing great work on the truck buddy, keep it up, don't let the hold up of parts/tools hold you up. Quote Link to comment

Yes, that's the way to do it! When welding the door skin patch the corner is going to tuck inward, If you can cut it off an angle it will be easier to try to keep it flat, if you've been watching Fitzie you already know this. Love the progress. 1 Quote Link to comment

Love the progress. unfortunately my thread is a little behind actual progress so I already chopped the metal off square. But I’ll definitely remember this for next time, makes sense! 1 Quote Link to comment
Draker
Stitch welded the patch on. flap disk and it’s smooth. Got a little warpage, but they’re low spots. I’ll deal with this later. But the rust is gone from this corner. this is the other side. As mentioned cut square before I saw rustbins comment. Doh! I sealed in zero rust, and then (not yet pictured) seam sealed it. More zero rust. Edited April 7 by Draker 3 Quote Link to comment

The way you've cut it is just as good, the ridge above reduces warping along the top and the convex shape should help along the side. It was the inside corner that you removed that would have sunk. Draker
Got most of the metal work done. Got the patches welded in. Lower mirror holes welded up. Need to patch the upper mirror holes, then I’m back on pulling and smoothing dents. 4 Quote Link to comment

Draker Posted yesterday at 05:46 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 05:46 AM (edited) Did a lot of work to get it to this point. Used shrinking disk, worked really well. Patching the mirror holes warped the metal pretty bad, I was pretty diligent with the heat but the metal sunk big time. I cut a slit in the panel, release the stress, welded it back up. Lots more pulling and shaping, got it pretty darn close to straight. Filled needed, but there aren’t any seriously thick slots I don’t think. Time will tell 😂 fixed pinholes in filler with glazing putty. 3 coats of high build primer, shaped with 220 grit. Tapped down a few high spots, more glaze, 3 more coats of high build. Finish sanded 320, wet sanded 400 and 500 grit. Now comes the tricky part, I have to blend the original paint line and primer to the point I can shoot color, and blend it without covering the surface rust at the top. Lot more finish sanding to come. Hoping to shoot color soon and be done with this damn door!! Edited yesterday at 05:49 AM by Draker 2 Quote Link to comment

Even stuffed tight with towels and rags. Unlike you ,, We gave up and half assed just finished it and called it done. 1 Quote Link to comment

And pretty easy if not going for perfection. Edited 5 hours ago by Draker Quote Link to comment
