Years ago I had a Jeep Cherokee with the Renault 2.1 TD and I always bitched that diesel cost more than gas. And to rub salt into the wound, anytime there was a price war going on, diesel was never discounted.

Still loved that Cherokee, the diesel was excellent match up. All aluminum engine with 5 speed manual. Not fast though, about 130kmh was flat out.

I swore I was going to switch to diesel until it out priced gas. There are a number of excuses, but I believe it all comes down to there's an opportunity (even if it is only perceived) that it should cost more-so let's fuck some people! I wouldn't have known about it or cared much, (haven't owned a diesel)but my grandfather worked in the gulf way back in the day. He told me the refineries would let the big diesel boats in the gulf refuel for free. The companies only wanted the gas (at the time) the leftover diesel was basically worthless.  It is one of those grandpa stories that stuck, because we were waiting in line for gas in the 70's

130kmh you mean 80 mph

Time the US got their shit together on metric. Mars was 'bombed' by a lander because someone didn't convert metric to 'American' units of measure.

There's more energy density in diesel and diesel's are much more efficient because of their higher compression. Mileage wise diesels are much better but they are not anywhere near as cool as a gas engine.

Au contraire, mon frère I will go metric, when you learn French.

Higher compression, efficient, more like driving a rolling bomb, I would give the cool to diesel---But--they stink. The coolest person in the room cannot be cool and stink at the same time. When I looked into going diesel, the plan was to throw in a ratio aquanol (ethanol and water) or biofuel (ethanol and fryer grease). Fellows that go for the maximum of those diesel supplements, claim greatly reduced cost of vehicle operation, but collecting and processing the supplements becomes a major time suck. I would just add a little per fill up so my exhaust smelled like french fries.

The last time diesel was high and Washington state Democrats seen it was going to drop they added a tax on diesel so it did not drop, that what happens when Democrats are running things.

Why we got them deported out of the White House?

My brother had a 75 Pinto with a V6 and use to out run the Chevy nova with 307 in the quarter mile.In the 70's.Nova's were butt slow.

A 1975 Ford Pinto with a V6 engine was equipped with a 2.8-liter Cologne V6, introduced that year to compete with the AMC Gremlin, typically paired with a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. These cars often featured blue interior/exterior color schemes and represented a, then, significant power increase over the standard 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine.

Engine: The 2.8-liter V6 was a German-made engine often found in the Pinto and Mustang II of this era.

Transmission: V6 models were generally available only with an automatic transmission.

Performance: The 2.8L V6 produced approximately 97–103 horsepower in 1975–1976.

Appearance: 1975 models added larger, reinforced bumpers with bumper guards.

Significance: Known for being a, at the time, "rare" option compared to the common 4-cylinder or 2.3L engines.

I just bought an LR4 to toy with in time for the fuel hikes.  It’s really fun to watch you guys still blaming democrats for raising prices for gas is ways that earn us money vs raising cost of gas that won’t earn us shit.

Actually metric system is taught and used in American schools as well as the far superior Imperial system  .. i guess they figure America children are smart enough to learn both, unlike Canada  ..

If it was good enough for the ole queen Elizabeth ,, well than it's damn well good enough for me.

USA will never go to metrics. We use it at work making printing plates because the printing presses that our customers use are made over seas like Germany. Also our big guillotines are made over seas and the blades are too.We use mm's.We have digital tables to measure the plates. Our aluminum gauge is in mm and is made over seas. Our tape measures are in mm.Hard to find them in USA.I have some that have mm and standard. We are not allowed to have standard tape measures. To me, metric is better than standard. No fractions.Just whole numbers.Like a 2x4 is not really a 2x4.Wood dimensions are not what they say they are.4x4 is not a 4x4.And so on.We have a tolerance of.8 mm on length and width and bias on the plates cause they wont fit the presses and no burr on the plates from getting cut.12 gauge in aluminum in standard is .30mm in metric.8 gauge is 20 and 15 gauge is 40.We use to use thinner and thicker gauge. Our 40 gauge is the thickess. Those plates are bigger too.Harder to kink them.We do have some that are 1380mm x 2100 mm.We have guillotines that are 2550 mm long and 2500 mm wide.We use carbide blades.

5.74/gallon I just paid.  Most of a tank cost me 100.  Thanks Obama

If you had California's Governor, I can assure you it would be much more.  We pay (on average) $1.30/gal  more due to taxes. Oh, and of course, we have to have a "special blend" for summer and winter..
