Ab1997
Yes. I checked all fuses. The crazy thing is. Before we swapped everything over to the new block all electrical was working and the old engine cranked up Everytime. 1 Quote Link to comment
Ab1997
I haven't connected all the vacuum lines , would that screw up the firing since the dizzy has the vacuum line attached? Wanted to test the engine before putting all that crap back on. But maybe I should?? Thanks 1 Quote Link to comment
Ab1997
Yeah there is power to both coil terminals and to 1 of the wires on the distributer. 1 Quote Link to comment

Get a volt meter and check for 12v on the positive coil terminals. You also need 12v on the module (I think the red wire under the rotor) the other two go to the coil negative terminals. No 12v to the proper wire on the module... no worky. I think it's 12v to the B terminal on the module, above 1 Quote Link to comment
Ab1997
Yes there is 12v to that terminal 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
I assumed it was the middle one try moving them around. Is the rotor on? does it turn when using the starter? hold the coil wire near ground and try to start it. Got spark??? 1 Quote Link to comment
Ab1997
Yeah the rotor is on and spins. I will try moving the wires around but I put them back on just like there were previous to us switching blocks. Thanks for helping. 1 Quote Link to comment
Ab1997
No spark, grrrr 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Distributor is well grounded??? Because both coils have to go to ground through the distributor. 1 Quote Link to comment
Ab1997
I guess so. I have it bolted in do not see any other ground for it. 1 Quote Link to comment
Rat-a-tat-Dat
Module failure? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Always possible. I don't see why. Check for loose wires. Distributor well grounded. Coil + terminal must have 12v with key on. 1 Quote Link to comment
Ab1997
I will try again in the morning. Thanks. Looks like I have checked all those things. Even changed the module under the passenger side. Not sure what else to do. It has power to the coil and to the distributor. Just will not fire. 1 Quote Link to comment
Ab1997
Ok, still nothing. Went ahead and switched all modules I could find(2 of them under the passenger dash. I have several replacements I have purchased in the past every kind of module this thing has and all tested and working. Could there be something wrong with the timing chain in the new block?? Could there be.something there that.could cause this? Thanks 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The electronic ignition module is in the distributor, under the rotor. Anything under the dash is a relay and not related to this. The module is at the bottom with a hole and three terminals on it 1 Quote Link to comment
Rat-a-tat-Dat
How are the tabs on the pick up wheel or stationary posts? Air gap between pick up wheel and posts should be preset but check this as well. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well apparently nothing was done to it, just the engine swapped. This would indicate something was wires up wrong. 1 Quote Link to comment
Rat-a-tat-Dat
True that Mike. A crate engine is usually painted before shipping so a poor ground can happen quite easily. Removal of any paint to which the distributor housing contacts is essential, also make sure the engine is properly grounded to the frame. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The negative battery cable bolts to the intake near the thermostat. 1 Quote Link to comment
Ab1997
Alright, I replaced the module in the distributor today and nothing. I will try scraping paint and making sure ground is good. You are right, I assume it's something with wiring but we swapped everything out piece by piece and reconnected exactly as removed on the new engine. Took pictures of every wiring hookup and repeated connections exactly and much cleaner than before. This is just craziness that it will not fire. I have a new distributor I guess I will try to install that tomorrow. I am at a total loss why there is no spark. Also replaced the coils today. Nothing. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You are holding the high tension lead from the coil near a grounded surface? When engine is started there should be a nice fat spark. With the key on, touch a grounded wire to the negative side of either coils and remove. When you take the ground off it will spark. 1 Quote Link to comment
Ab1997
Alright. Still no spark from the coils or anything. I checked the power supply to all like was recommended. There is power when the key is on at the coil packs and the dizzy. But no spark Quote Link to comment

I Everything was working so not wired right. Did you try moving the 3 wire on the module around in case I was rong about the middle B one having the 12 v? How exactly are you testing for spark???? Ab1997
Yes I moved all wires around. I have tried every method mentioned and ones I have used before. Placed wires from packs to ground, removed spark plugs and held to metal ground. Etc etc I am at a loss Quote Link to comment
