Wolfman
Totally zoned while putting my battery back in my 510 and reversed the terminals. Didn’t turn the key, wires reversed for about 10 sec. smoked my alternator, replaced it with one from parts car. Car seems to run fine, voltage at 13.9 idling, increases when rpms go up. (Not really erratic) coil is internally regulated. Anything I should check so I don’t screw my car up more? Not good with electrical. Thanks in advance! (I know what I did was very stupid) Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You're probably good to go. Ignition off separates a lot of stuff and most would be turned off anyway. Light bulbs wouldn't matter they would continue to work even backwards.... and they were probably off anyway. Alternator has electronics with transistors and diodes. Lucky you did this with a car with 50 year old technology and not a 2020 something. I swear when everything is over there will be Datsuns and cockroaches still around. Quote Link to comment
Wolfman
Thank you for the quick reply! Puts my mind at ease! And you got that right my S13 is a nightmare of wires/cramped space. My Datsun has always started no matter how long it’s sat! Quote Link to comment
