Moondi Posted April 5, 2020 Report Share Posted April 5, 2020 Hi, I have a 1980 Datsun 720, I got it smoggeg the other day, came back gross poluter w CO and HC off the charts. I started with simple fix and changed out the Cat, I think the sucker w original. I retested, the HC was really good, passed easy, CO passed at 15 mph but quite high and failed at 25 mph. I’m hoping to get recommendation to any Datsun mechanic in LOS ANGELES area you all might have. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike Posted April 5, 2020 Report Share Posted April 5, 2020 I would start with checking the choke is fully off when the engine is warmed up. Then clean or replace the plugs. If the distributor cap and wires are old, say over 5 years, replace them. Next check/adjust the valve clearances and set the timing.... basically a tune up. If the oil is past the time for a change, change it and the filter. Get a Wix or NAPA gold NOT a fram filter. Where's BrothersGarage located? LA or San Fran?
