Duncan
Nice looking ute, but isn't there a 25 year old rule on imported cars? (And I'm sure there are various exceptions to every rule) Edited November 24, 2008 by Duncan Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
Bacardi, ask your friend to post a pic, we love to see rare Datsuns. Duncan, yes the 25 year rule applies. It is the DOT that sets this, and not EPA (emission controls). EPA has a 20 or 21 year rule.. There are no practical exemptions. There is one for historical status (e.g. Porsche 959) and perhaps maybe for "off-road" use. So perhaps this 1987 does not have a registration for street use. Quote Link to comment
Duncan
I saw a fellow with a car on ebay who was in the military, and he claimed he had docs to legally have a later-model car in the US under some military exemption rule. He also claimed it was okay to sell and re-register to the new owner. Don't know how true that is, but it makes a little bit of sense for a career soldier to ship his car around. When I was in the military (a REAL long time ago) they'd ship cars to personnel to and from Europe for tours longer than two years. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Come to find out, that was a phony advertisement. The photo is of Trix's ute, he's a datsun1200.com club member and says his truck is not in America. Quote Link to comment
