Greaser2
Is a 85-86 transmission different from an 1988 trans? Quote Link to comment
wayno
If your talking about the 85/86 Nissan 720 short shaft compared to an 88 C type yes they are different, but again the L block front case can be put on the C type if it is machined to except the larger/different offset bearing, also they are a different length. Greaser2
Thanks wayno. Looks for the trans locally and found an 88. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The car 71C is about 34" long, the truck 71C is about 30"? This is +- I haven't measured one myself. You can machine a 71B case for the 62mm counter bearing, or just pull the 62mm bearing off the 71C and put a 56mm bearing for a 71B on it. There's more... The first/second shift rod hole in the 71B case need to be enlarged from 14mm to 16mm The inside of the 71B case needs to be machined around the counter bearing So it looks like this... The 71C uses wider gears and they stick out farther. If you don't machine the case and you tighten the case on you won't be able to turn it. The change from 71B to C was the middle of the '86 production year, or about December'86/January '87, and only affected the S12 200sx Before January '87 they were Bs and after they are Cs, The 720 stopped production just before this so are all Bs and the D21 Hardbody began at this time so are all Cs. 1 Quote Link to comment
