dattson510
So I think I may have found another B210, but it's an automatic. I would like to put my dogleg 5 in it. How difficult is this gonna be? Is it worth my time or should I keep looking? Quote Link to comment
bonvo
i wouldnt think it would be to hard you already have all the parts should just be a matter swapping parts over maybe cutting a different hole in the floor for the shifter Quote Link to comment
dattson510
That's what I was wondering. Did the holes in the trans tunnel line up? Is there a place to hang the clutch or do I have to fab it? I just saw the car from the outside and it looks pretty straight. Owner wasn't around to show me everything I wanted to see. datzenmike
If you have a complete 5speed installed and working then all you have to do is swap it over. Nothing worse than missing parts. You will need to swap the auto brake pedal put and the clutch and brake from the standard in. Pretty sure the auto brake pedal is different, larger. No matter you have the standard one so use it. The clutch master will have to be installed... the holes for it may be there already and just have a cover plate, X your fingers. The tranny, clutch & pp as well as the flywheel should just bolt on BUT: this is important, so don't forget... install a new pilot bushing in the end of the crankshaft. The tranny mount from the auto may work, again you have the one from the 5 spd. Same with the drive shaft. Speedo cable same. Some tunnels above the tranny have a large hole with a cover plate that will unscrew. This holds the rubber boot for around the shifter and allows the hole to be moved forward and back slightly to suit the tranny application. If this isn't the case and you have to open up the hole for the 5spd shifter, make your own cover to keep dirt and fumes out. Seal it up good and no one will see it under the carpet. Now if the automatic has a different gear ratio in the differential, your speedometer will be wrong. Pull the speedo cog from the auto and swap into the 5spd, if it will fit. (should) Usually automatics have a lower gear ratio (higher number) than a comparable car with standard. If this is the case this should add a small amount of snap to your driving when combined with the 5spd. If this isn't what you want, swap the rear ends (just the 3rd member) by unbolting the axles and disengaging the splines from it. If you swap rears leave the speedo cog alone as its matched to the that standard rear end. Edited November 20, 2008 by datzenmike Quote Link to comment
