Spiff
The heater valve/watercock in my 720 has developed a slight leak and new ones are NLA. But I see several new for the 240z for sale online (probably repros?) so I was wondering if it would be a viable option to use the internals from this to overhaul my leaky one? I assume its one of rubber seals in it thats bad. I saw it done on a 510(using a 620 watercock) http://www.510coop.com/completed/heater.htm The plunger body on my 720 looks similar enough to the 240 one so... 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
This is from a later 720... Just plugs in line and has a lever on the back for shutting off. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
One other trick, to help with cleaning the grimy brass - use a spray on metal etch. Let it sit for a few minutes and hose it off. The brass will look like new. I use it on corroded fuse panels too. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=krud+kutter+metal+clean+and+etch&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2q7dnKmc5QIVjMDACh3uBgj_EAAYASAAEgKMQ_D_BwE&hvadid=174234010504&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9032514&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=11656025956363347555&hvtargid=kwd-139054910883&hydadcr=24601_9648840&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_46y1j4086h_e Quote Link to comment
Spiff
I decided to dismantle it to see if I could replace the o-rings that seal it. A bit fiddly but I got it apart and took the two o-rings to a hardware store, found the closest match and put it together again. There was also a lot of dirt, grime and hard scales inside the body of the valve so I used a steel brush drill attachment to clean it thourougly. Applied some silicone grease to the o rings and assembly also. Seems to hold thight so far, might be worth a try if you can't find a new valve. Quote Link to comment
