Atma
Hello! So I'm the proud owner of a 1985 Nissan (ne Datsun) 720 Pickup Deluxe 4x4 King Cab. Beautiful, beautiful truck. One minorly annoying thing is the 1/2 return springs are conspicuously weak. 5/R return springs are as strong as any new car I've driven, but 1/2 is just lazy. While this doesn't impact functionality greatly, it does rather mess with the way I drive. To be truthful, I rely on the return springs to line me up on 3rd gear when shifting up from 2nd. With it as weak as it is, I often hit the finger in between the 1 and 3 gates instead of actually hitting 3rd. I'm not seeing any repair kits that include return springs, though being it is a top loader I'm wonderin' if anyone else has experienced this and found a way to fix it short of a full gearbox teardown and finding a part for the return spring. Thanks! -Atma 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You can shim the existing spring, I did. Or get a stiffer one. Have you looked, maybe yours is broken. It makes it return to the 3/4 gate more firmly. 1 Quote Link to comment
Atma
Haven't cracked open the top loader plate yet. Can it be gotten to through that? 1 Quote Link to comment
