1959 Datsun 1000

The short story. 

 

I am browsing FB marketplace for datsuns (like I need any more lol) and I see this old Datto for sale. 
After looking at the ad a few times I realized I knew the tow rig and the house it was parked at.
I text Icehouse and said I recognized his junk in the ad, he said, "It's yours". I'm like, fuck lemme find parking.
Hobo says I can stash it out back at his place.

I tell Icehouse it's on.

As you can see it is a bit of a clean slate. It has some interesting rust, the rockers are ate up, but the floors are pristine. 

There is about 7 layers of paint. 

 

I don't really have a plan as of yet, but an idea is forming. 

 

I get some more pics and maybe some video when I head up to do a better assessment and put some tires on that hold air.

I think he means there is only 400 miles on the motor before someone crashed the car it was in. :)

My thoughts when looking at it were to section out about 6" from the rockers/lower body that is rotted away anyway. That would correct the body aspect ratio to give it a much sportier look. Of course, I'm short so head room is less of a worry for me...

Only 400 miles on the car it came out of before it was wrecked.  The range will depend on the battery he can fit into that tinny little car!

Yeah the Tesla motor and controller are one very light unit for the power output.  It weighs less then 300lbs (which includes gear box and diff) and puts out 450lbs or torque and 416hp

Steve, you will have to add some mighty fine brakes to this Datsun 1000 to compensate for "Tesla torque.."

 

But if you pull this Tesla swap off, I would be very interested in going for the third or fourth test drive.... the one right after you take your lady for a spin and the rig is reasonably safe!

 

My brother has a mid-level Model S and it is more than fast.

PS: If the Tesla swap doesn't work out, will we shortly see custom sets of REDEYEYE KA-1000 motor mounts offered up here?
