Shift knob on the spinner and coated in resin...

Also picked up this. My quick release is set up for a 3-bolt wheel, and I found this super shallow 1/2" thick converter...

I had a one inch thick converter, but I searched and searched and couldn't find it anywhere. Turns out, it's on Tim's 1200...   😄

They claim is spins at 5-6rpm, but I think it's a little bit faster than that, maybe closer to 8-9rpm.

And because I am a dork, I clocked it last night. Spins at 7.8rpm with the shift knob, and 7.3rpm with the steering wheel.

Apparently, more weight slows it down a tad, as you'd expect. 😁

After sanding it down and putting on a second coat, it came out a lot smoother...

Since I had a spot of the surface layer of walnut chip out on the back, I decided to turn a bug into a feature and add some finger grooves...  😁

Close up to see the stripes better...

And as another hitch in my giddyup...

After driving Tim's van one too many times lately I started to really dig on his suede steering wheel. Then I found a smoking deal on this...  😄

Not sure which will end up on the car, we shall see...  😁

Mind you, the Coleman quick release I am using is not super expensive. I could always buy another one and use both wheels...   😉

I have been meaning to sort out an issue holding me up on the dash, so today I did. I don't know if I mentioned it, but I think I have decided to go commando with the dash and not recover the metal top. But that means there is no way to attach it on the right side. I I got some super strong magnets and used them to attach the right side of the dash upper to the dash lower. Seems to have worked a treat. This photo will probably tell you nothing, but here goes...

Then I decided I think we need to step away from interior bits and baubles for awhile and handle some more pressing issues.

I need to get cracking on brake/clutch hydraulics, so I went ahead and took the brake master off to have a looksee. There really isn't a good way to mount the clutch master next to the brake master because the firewall slopes down just to the left of the brake master...

So I am going to get some thick steel plate and make a spacer of sorts that goes between the brake master and firewall, but extends left to also go between the clutch master and firewall to give it a flatter surface to attach to. Time for some CAD...

It may not make sense now, but it will when you see it done...  😁

But I did get bored when I got home and did this...  😄

Awhile back Tim bought a "wood" steering wheel off ebay. And it got chipped and exposed the underneath, then we realized... It's not wood. It just looks like wood...

I cut into it to find out it's actually expanding foam with a resin coating that mimics wood...  😆

So I think I am going to "fix" it by replacing all that with some actual wood...

And it may be time to just start a DIY wooden steering wheel thread...  😁

Not to denigrate the Nardi wheel, but the spokes of this one look an awful lot like the Nardi's.  You need to figure out a way to etch/scribe/emboss your signature into it like Mr. Nardi did on... the Nardi.

Nardi.

How you planning to finish the dash? Back and forth on what I'm going to do on the mustang. Not sure if just paint, flock or wrap.

Wrap would be interesting, especially with some of the new super realistic carbon wraps out there. But I am currently waffling between flock and just wrinkle finish black. The dash face, glove box, etc will be wrinkle finish. but kinda want the flocked top to match my suede seats and steering wheel.

Of course the real dream would be to take it to an upholstery shop and have it covered in suede, but I haven't priced that yet. Kinda scared to...  😁

Also, if I could find a real stretchy suede-like material (what my seats are actually covered with), I would take a crack and recovering it myself...

I'll probably have a bit of faux carbon left over after we do... ok, after we have my hood done.

Since the Nardi is flat plate. You could just get a laser cut plate and press it into shape. Spokes can be whatever design you like and you signature could be laser etched.

Alcantera.

That is an option, but apparently a relatively new thing is a faux suede with spandex in it, to stretch over complex shapes. I may get some of that to experiment with.

The real trick would be doing it in one piece, which I don't think is possible, so I likely have to decide where/how to seam it...

Did some head scratching, and decided it may be wiser to try and use the Ranger master cylinder instead of the F150. The Ranger version is designed to mount down lower, about 6-7" below the brake master. And has a nifty remote reservoir. Need to take some measurements on the car to see, but it looks promising...

And yes, they both use the same clutch slave, so piston size should be comparable. 😁
