1972 Nissan Laurel 2000GX project

Recommended Posts

Hello guys.

I am the new member here. Live in Vladivostok, Russia. Its near Japan, China and North Korea.

I own a exclusive Nissan Laurel 2000GX.

https://www.drive2.ru/r/nissan/laurel/1425169/ you may see some pics here

The HARDTOP version was manufacturing from June 1970 till end 1972. And is was 3 types:

1. Standard model with G18 engine 1800cc single carburetor (Nissan Laurel 1800) - KC30

2. Standard model with G20 engine 2000cc single carburetor (Nissan Laurel 2000) - PC30

3. Rally model with G20 engine 2000cc double carburetor (Nissan Laurel 2000GX) - KPC30

The 2000GX was produced about 800 items. It was rally version. But there was no success in racing. In 1971 Nissan has made a Skyline 2000GTX with L20 engine and GT-R with S20 engine which were winning all the races during several years. Laurel was not so popular because everybody wanted Hakosuka.

I own this car about 4 years. And there is no any spare parts at all even in Japan. So I decided to make a new project with SR20DET engine. I will put all the new parts (engine, brakes, suspension, wires, pumps and others). I will live the body and interior like from the factory.

Impressive work! And such an amazing car!  Are you still working on the swap?

America has gone fucking crazy with Russia hysteria, but if you build a car like that, you're okay in my book! Welcome aboard!!

Yeah. Still working.

Tomorrow planning to put the radiator with pipes. After that putting a coolant in it.

Then testing hydraulics. And we can start an engine not for 3 sec as it was the first time but 10-15 minutes. To warm up everything. Check for leaking or smth.

Totally agree!

I'm excited to see the rest of your build. Thanks for joining and posting your progress so far.

My mission of building this project is to make a car with all present technical and electrical parts. But exterior and interior will be oldschool style.

I am using only Nissan spare parts.

I saw many projects in USA with Datsun 510 models. Almost everybody replacing dash gauges, changing a console.

But I keep everything stock. I want every gauge and indicator work properly with a new engine and CPU. And everything is already works except speedometer.

For now I'm searching for a current sensor to make it work correctly.

You have a cable speedometer now? The early D21 truck '87-'93 used a mechanical speedometer and the pinion sleeve fits your 71C transmission. After that an electric sensor was used.

You will have to get the correct plastic gear to keep your speedometer accurate. If you have your old transmission take the pinion out and count the teeth. If your differential was changed this will change everything.

Love the Laurel. Roof line is similar to the 510 SSS Coupe
