It has a totally different exhaust manifold on the L20b, but we use the L16 exhaust manifold because it is like a header, I think there is a mount hole or bracket made for the L20b manifold, I don't have any of them manifolds to take a photo of.

You can see the little bracket in this pic. 

 

 

Not stud but you can see where it would mount to the exhaust stud and the vent tube bolts to that.... I think you can see that bolt in the picture....

Just looked at your picture again... tubes are different but the bracket would be the same idea....

You could probably just make a small L bracket to join the 2....

What’s the best way, Engine and trans together or put them in separately, trans first?

If you have enough over head to lift it high enough and the way to tilt the engine up transmission down to insert it then together. Lifting and bolting a transmission into place under the truck and tightening the bolts is a bitch.

That breather set up is cool

what I did when I had a L18 that has the same set up. I cut the Tube shorter and turned it straight out like a L16 then took a spare L16 tube and cut to fit on the L18 tube as it fit inside the L16 tube ,the  stock L16 pvc  Rubber hose tube fits the stock L16 intake pvc valve

So what that photo said to me was this is what that tube bolts to.

 

That 10mm headed bolt is a lot smaller than the hole in the breather tube bracket(you can see that in the photo), I thought it would be a larger bolt like in the back of the L20b exhaust manifold, I have used headers on my work truck from 1995 thru 2018 when I used an L16 exhaust manifold, and the 520 with the L20b an early L16 exhaust manifold was used, I always saved them brackets to use for pulling engines, now I actually know what they are for if what I did in the photo is right.

There is a Zcar expert in Houston. He rebuilt the L20B and found the 5speed in California.  Was just about to buy some 720 trans to make a shortie too.

That 5 speed looks like its from California Datsun, any idea if it is?  I only ask because the paint/coating looks like something he does.

I spent days trying to clean my original trans and it still looks like crap.

The Dogleg 5spd has the shift lever come out the stock hole, that is why it is a popular conversion, but it is not such a great transmission, Dan Hart told me a long time ago if I was going to haul loads or tow with this truck to use 4th gear, well I went thru 4 dogleg 5spd transmissions in 5 years as I used 5th gear all the time, they are just not meant to be used in trucks used as trucks.
