I did some searching and the posts are years old. It’s doable either way but looking for an opinion that isn’t 5 years old.

If it works fine right now it will work just fine if you move it to the rear... or leave it. It may be quieter if moved outside.

 

Liquid pumps can be made to push almost any pressure but they suck at sucking because they are limited by atmospheric pressure of 14.7 PSI. No pump made can suck up hill over about 30 feet so the lower the pump is to the fuel tank the easier it is for it to work. Mechanical pumps are almost level with the carburetor but have unlimited power to run them and are not going to over heat.
