datsunfreak
The Seymour Duncans I am using have a slightly wider string spacing on the rear pickup to suit a Stratocaster bridge, instead of a Gibson bridge (2mm wider). Found some neat chrome steel pickup rings that fit the wider pickup, though... 👍 1 Quote Link to comment

That's the only way really. This is a pic of the top of the line version of the one I had that I found on the internets. Shoulda never sold mine... 1 Quote Link to comment

Shoulda never sold mine... Friend who I was in a band with in high school (I played bass) had one of those with white polka dots all over it... 😄 Assuming he was a big Randy Rhodes fan... ]2eDeYe
Very cool. I was digging into the epiphone ones, apparently they were all out of the same factory and Epiphone was sued for infringement by charvel (I think, which is jackson if I remeber correctly...) They only made the Epiphone for like 2 years so they are hard to find (especially black), that body in that vintage is pretty hard to come by in general. Quote Link to comment

Currently, and for a little while at least, Charvel is owned by Fender. They mostly just make more "metal" versions of strats now. r Back in the 80s/90s they were sot of aligned with Jackson I think... They definitely both favored the same headstock shapes and body shapes back then, as well as ESP and a few others... 1 Quote Link to comment

You were correct. Wayne Charvel sold out to Grover Jackson , which is when they basically became the same guitar with two different headstock decals... 😁 Have been low key looking for an '82-86 Charvel because the neck plates in that era were stamped "Fort Worth, TX" instead of "San Dimas, CA". Hell, I'd settle for just a neck plate and build my own from there... 😄 Edited March 26, 2022 by datsunfreak 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Some stain and a bit of finish on the back side... Going to apply a stain and finish to the front today, then finish sanding the sides and routing the edges. I wanted to do my staining before routing so I end up with a little bare maple exposed as sort of a faux binding. Applying some "temporary" finish to the faces will hopefully keep me from getting any scratches in the stain when I route it. Then I will apply a finish to the whole thing... 2 Quote Link to comment

Hard to believe, but it's been 20-plus years since Fender acquired Charvel. Fender and I parted ways in '03, and the deal happened a few years before I left.. Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
That's real nice. So, I have this guitar that I've been thinking could be rebodied. The tremolo pivots are pulling the holes on this one. She's been stored a while. 1 Quote Link to comment

If you want easy, it could be as simple as remove some wood around the holes, replace it, re-drill it, then repaint it? But a fancy wewd body would be cool too... 😉 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Or did you mean convert it to a V? 😉 1 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Easy is boring lol. V conversion would be sweet. I looked into shipping options, seems to be USPS media mail is the deal, just takes a while to get where it's going. Quote Link to comment

Well, let me know when you're ready. 😁 An idea I have been kicking around depends on if you're much of a Van Halen fan? I want to do a Frankenstrat, but with wood instead of paint. Do strips of dyed maple in red, black, and natural? That is what I immediately thought of when I saw this... But a black limba flying V would be pretty badass... 👍 Or meet in the middle? 😋 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Finally finished sanding (I think) and went ahead and put some tung oil on the sides, two coats so far... I need to rig up a way to hang it, so I can do more coats, but all over at once. 1 Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
Welp... Tried to shoot a clear coat over the whole thing on Sunday and it failed. Big time. 🙁 So, now on to round two! Sanded the front and back all the way down to fresh wood, then re-dyed the back side. Went a little brighter/more orange this time to show off the wood grain better... Finished product will look better than that photo indicates. 👌 This time, not spraying any clear, just gonna put a bajillion coats of tung oil on it and call it good. 👍 Edited April 19, 2022 by datsunfreak 1 Quote Link to comment

Duncan
Someone sent me this link which I thought had disappeared quite a few years back. The price is outrageous enough, but the $6.50 shipping is even more absurd. A must have for the serious collector Quote Link to comment
