SDV
Good day everyone. Looking for some help. Kinda stumped. 86 nissan 720. 2wd . I recently dropped a new engine in. 2.4 8 plug stock. Nothing fancy lol. Before the swap truck never gave me any trouble. But since the swap she don't wanna work correctly for me. So the problem im having is the truck runs and idles great ( new carb ). Problem is driving the truck she when coming to a stop she shuts off. But starts right back up. It don't do this all the time either. I noticed when it makes a whistle sound coming from what sounds like the brake pedal, it don't do it. But when i don't hear it , it does it. Yeah sounds strange but im lost with it. Has new fuel pump, filter etc.. Anybody have any ideas ? Your help will be greatly appreciated 1 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Welcome. Sounds like a vacuum leak at the brake booster. Anytime you swap in anything, even if you double check everything, you can miss something. 1 Quote Link to comment
SDV
Thanks for the reply. Figured the whistle nose yesterday which was a leak in the brake booster. And iI I double checked and triple checked everything. Found a post about fuel pump relay. But people say it takes about 10 minutes for the trucks to start back up. Where mine starts right away. Still looking lol. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If a leak is it loose hose or split? or the booster? A vacuum leak will definitely affect idle and cause a stall when you stop. Borrow a vacuum gauge and connect to the intake and tape to the windshield where you can see it. Take for a drive. Idle vacuum is good at 18-22. Much higher when decelerating. See what happens when you push on the brakes. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Vacuum leaks can be detected easily with starter fluid or break parts cleaner. Check youtube for videos how. 1 Quote Link to comment
