ratsun777
1974 Datsun 620 l18 Changing my belt and loosened the bolt on the alternator bracket but the alternator won’t move to get it closer to the other pulleys so I can slip the belt on. Any suggestions Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
By the way you said it, it sounds like you only loosened the adjuster bolt. Did you loosen the 2 underneath connected to the bracket that is bolted to the block? Quote Link to comment
ratsun777
No I didn’t. Do I also need to loosen those to be able to move the alternator to give me slack to put the belt on? Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Yes .... you need to loosen all 3. . I usually tighten the top one first once I tension the belt then tighten the ones underneath.... 1 Quote Link to comment

Dont take them all the way out if you dont have to, just crack them loose... Quote Link to comment
ratsun777
Thank you so much so those other two bolts are right underneath the alternator? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The bolts one front and one back that go in the bottom holes. The alternator swings on them like a door. Once the belt is adjusted, press hard with thumb in middle of belt between pulleys and it should move about a belt width, tighten these two bolts again. I think they are 17mm 1 1 Quote Link to comment
