jagman
I ran across a king cab junker with an automatic trans and was wondering if the king cab would fit on the frame of the std long bed. I will use some of the body parts if not. I have an idea that one of you has done this or tried it and can offer some advice. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I put my 620 KC on an '82 720 long bed frame. Perfect fit except the front two bed mounts I had to cut off the frame and moved to the rear about 8 to10 inches. I could probably have easily got by, by just removing them. Both the KC and the long bed trucks are called long wheelbase frames so yes they will fit. 1 Quote Link to comment
jagman
Second question. How reliable is the automatic tranny in the 720? Should I save it or junk it? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes the truck autos are very strong/reliable if they are not over heated from towing and the fluid is changed every 30K. What year? The 3N71B was changed to torque converter lock up around '82 1 Quote Link to comment
jagman
The truck should be here on Monday weather permitting. I will know the year etc then. Visual inspection from afar gave me the king cab, 6 foot bed and automatic. The lines of the truck tell me it should be in the 84 - 86 range. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
'85- has no bed rail or lip at the top. The sides are one piece and tail lights vertical in the upper bed corners. '83-'84 have the bed lip and seam along the length with the vertical tail lights. '80-'82 has the bed lip, bed seam and the tail lights along the bottom back of the bed. 1980 hoods are unique with louvers in the back of the hood in front of the louvers in the cowl. '81-'82 have a small hood vent on either side of the hood about half way back. The '84 and up are unremarkable. All hoods will interchange. All doorsfenders and cabs are the same. 1 Quote Link to comment
jagman
The VIN number is 1N66ND06S4FC372089 on this truck. I assume the last 2 digits are the year but would like confirmation of that. I do know that the engine in this junker is the same as the 86 that I have been working on so that's a good sign. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Nissan began using the prefix IN6 for the '84 model year. Previous to this it was JNS I think you have too many 6s. I think it should begin IN6NDO...... It's an '85 model year (just barely) 2wd, king cab, Z24i the 372,089 is the sequential production number You were the # 302,089th made for the '85 model year. By that number I get made in April sometime. April is the first month that the Z24i was produced. If it was an 89 it would be a D21 Hardbody.and not a 720. My info shows that the '86 model year began the next month in May '85 of the previous year and ended October '85. So all '86 720s were made in '85 ? 1 Quote Link to comment
jagman
Based on your info re the VIN The truck I have been working on is only 8000+ units younger than the junker. The odd thing is that the junker is complete with all the air conditioning parts and what appears to be a new radiator. There is a small amount of rust through on the bed above the wheel arches but the rest of the body is in good shape. I have resealed the valves on my truck and will see if that fixes the smoking problem. We are hunkering down for the weather headed our way and won't be driving it for a day or two. Thanks Steve 1 Quote Link to comment
