joetully66
I have a 1980 Datsun 510 Liftback with a 32/36 Weber carburetor. While driving it will sometimes start lurching back and forth going up in rpms then slowing down and doing that repeatedly until i either pull over and restart the car or it dies. I have adjusted timing, fixed the vacuum leaks and nothing has helped. The fuel pump was changed to electric and put in the engine bay, i dont know if thats affecting it because its pulling fuel instead of pushing. Ive done lots of searching and cant find the solution to my problem so if anyone has an idea it would help. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Ideally a pump should push liquids. They are limited in how far they can lift but almost unlimited in pushing ability. I doubt this is the problem (because mechanical pumps pull fuel) unless the fuel line to the tank might be kinked or restricted. I would replace the fuel filter and try it. If you have never replaced it.... it's time. Next is to confirm that the fuel level in the carburetor is at the correct height. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
whats the fuel pressure? you need to run a low pressure pump like about 3pounds. was this doing this before the pump change? anything else was changed.??? Quote Link to comment
