mikecaleb
How do you get the front cover off of the in person shaft? I've got all the bolts out and the clutch ball. Still ain't budging. Also I can't figure out how to get the rubber boot that fits around the shifter on the shifter plate having to tear it? Quote Link to comment
Draker
There is a c-clip around the outside of the input shaft bearing. Quote Link to comment
mikecaleb
Do you by chance have any pictures? I have looked for one but can't seem to find it. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The clutch pivot ball does not come off, put it back on as you found it. Front cover? Is this... Or do you mean the front transmission case??? Some idiot previous owner probably had it part and used a sealer. Maybe a chevy owner, they love that shit. Put the pivot ball back on and using a socket extension push it through the clutch arm hole and hammer against the ball. Like this... Do not ever hit the nose that projects out over the input spline. mikecaleb
Yes it's the front cover inside the trans. I tried that with the extension and ball. Maybe I just wasn't hitting it hard enough. I'll give it another wack. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
5 bolts. Hammer may be too light. I have a 4 pound mini sledge and a couple of wraps and it separates easily enough. Quote Link to comment
mikecaleb
Got it off. I was also going in from the wrong angle. Will the bolts need to be torqued up re assembly? I know the bottom three bolts will require thread sealent. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
12-15 ft lbs. Thread sealer not used. The gasket will seal but you may have trouble finding one. RTV used sparingly will work. Quote Link to comment
EpileptiChicken
The shifter boot is held on by a plate that screws into the body. If you don’t want to cut the carpet you’ll have to take off a lot of trim and unbolt a seat to lift it first. Quote Link to comment
