Hamiltonstövare, the 122 hot rod

Recommended Posts

So I have been wanting something a little out of the ordinary, out of my comfort zone even, so...

It's a '66 Volvo 122 "Amazon", it is complete (some trim is in the trunk), glass is good, rust is very minimal...

Still not sure on engine choice, thinking KA or SR...

Inspiration came via this one...

As for engine go with B20 engine from 140 series as an upgrade.

I considered it, but I have no interest in fitting an older engine in the car.

Oddly I have owned over 80 cars in the last 25 years, but this will be my first Swedish car. I think an injection of Japanese bits will be fun and keep me interested...

After ruminating on this way too much, I am (currently) thinking in ascending order of likelihood...

3. SR20DE (relatively cheap, not too tough a swap, decent power)

2. KA24E (lots of torque, slightly lower difficulty level vs SR, I already have one)

1. Z22/Z24 (decent torque, easiest of the options to swap, shouldn't be too tough to find)

Anyone care to weigh in?

Prolly something to do with the camber in the ass and the 4 lug small pattern wheels?

Good eye sir. ?

Rear negative camber on a car that should have a solid axle.

4x100 wheels on a car that should be 5x114.3.

And the "obvious" one, a 2dr wagon. Which Volvo never built.

That car was the result of blending three cars into one. A super rusty wagon with no floors left, combined with a super rusty 2dr with no floors left, mix those two and drop them onto a BMW 325i convertible.  ?

Picked up the engine, got it down to the shop, and got it on a stand...

Turns over nice and smooth, and the inside looks nice...

Going to go ahead and build my motor mounts first before I do anything else to it. Once that's done, I'll tear it down for freshening up...  ?
