Roc1479
Guys, New to all this, but came across someone selling an S14 top with S15 bottom SR20DET. Doesn't have any harnesses or ecu. He says it turns over, but doesn't know too much about it because he got it from someone else. Should I consider it for my 72 510 swap? Would it be very expensive to get the harnesses and ecu, mounts, crossmember? What are some things to look for? Thanks, Rocky Quote Link to comment
heywier427
The engine configuration is fine like that. A very good/common swap for the 510. If fabrication is not your thing, all parts can be bought, and its pretty much plug and play. Try to push for more info on the engine. Is it rebuilt? Are the bottom end bearings fresh? Why was it taken apart? Most sr's spin bearings, so if thats the case the crank should be new, as well as the spun rod. Usually #3. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If it doesn't run it's scrap metal. Or worth what you can get for the parts in it. Seriously how can you evaluate how well it does run without doing this. There are plenty of engine importers that will supply engine transmission and ECU, WITH a warranty on top of that. Save up your money. Front cross member? You can flip one yourself if you have a welder or have one done. Try a want ad in our classifieds. There may be a place that does them on an exchange basis. Trans cross member? They are still for sale out west. Again you can make your own with a welder . There is an article in one of the Dime Quarterly issues for making spacers to drop the stock cross member for use with the 71B or C transmission mount. You will also need to shorten the drive shaft. New rad, exhaust system, convert electrical to internal alternator output, upgrade the brakes and suspension.... a good SR swap is $4-$7K if YOU do most of the work, don't kid yourself. 1 Quote Link to comment
heywier427
Ill do it for you for 7k ? Ill even supply everything! For the crossmember, I would go jb coachworks and covert to r&p. trans brace, like mike said is available, but stock sr and z32 ones work as well with drop spacers. If your not doing any of the work yourself, its not gonna be cheap. 4k is a realistic low budget figure after all said and done doing it yourself. 1 Quote Link to comment
